October Surgery Roll Call

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on the first as well. Feeling great! Some gas pain of & on but otherwise ok. 4 incisions & not sore. I found sleeping on my stomach helps with the gas. Hospital BC In Mexico (BariatricPal) is a great place to have your wls done!

Hi! I'm a newbie here! I just found out yesterday my VSG will be Oct 28. Reality is starting to settle in! Great to find this forum. I used ones in the past for ankle surgery and hysterectomy. Wishing all October surgery buddies nothing but the best!

I'm the 28th too, also sleeve. :)

Had my gastric bypass today. I’m feeling great and have been walking to help with the gas pain but otherwise pain has been very manageable. I’m ahead of where my doc wanted me to be so they are considering letting me go home tomorrow instead of Monday like they had planned. 😊😊😊

OK kids, here's my Sleeve story - I flew down 9/29 to Hospital BC (Bariatric Pal) in Mexico. I spent the night and had my procedure the next morning. All went well! I came through like a champ. Recovery was goofy as always with general anesthetic. However, by about 6 pm I was ready to roll. The only pain I had was muscle spasms from the gas. I didn't ask for pain meds. When I left, the hospital supplied me with all the meds i needed and 1 prescription for blood thinners. The valet took us directly to a pharmacy where they give a nice discount for your purchase. So I was set to go home.

If you are considering WLS in Mexico, please go to Hospital BC! Dr. Illan is a marvelous surgeon with tons of accreditations (plus he is just a wonderful fun person). Every Valet I saw and or met was super attentive and the nurses and other doctors were fabulous as well. BTW, the hotel you go to...The Real, just let me say I think it's a 5 star. The rooms are spacious, modern, have all the amenities you would look for when vacationing +.

The tour through Tijuana? That was out standing as well. Our guide Juan is knowledgable and also seemed to know the conversion rates darn well. Cesar's where we had lunch was outstanding! A bit of old Hollywood glamor (dating myself a little) style yet modernized. We watched as they hand tossed salads at "other" tables, and feasted on a sumptuous Onion Soup. After a hard day of shopping and sight seeing we went back to the hotel. WOW! Was it hard to fly home today.

I'm just saying, please oh pleas, consider BC Hospital. Of course you can find wls surgery for less, but why when you can go be treated like royalty by Dr. Illan and his Team?

I just returned from having a mini gastric bypass on October 1 and I have to agree with @ypease, Dr. Ilan and the whole staff at Hospital BC are amazing!

I have never had such attentive nurses at any other hospital, the level of care was outstanding. I had some nausea after surgery but once that passed I could not believe how fast I was up walking around and feeling great.

Also, If you do go, take the tour. I was not planning to go but I’m glad I did because I had such a good time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
