Calculating Your Frame Size

Body frame size is determined by a person's wrist circumference in relation to his height . For example , a man whose height is over 5'5" and wrist is 6" would fall into the small boned category.

Determing frame size :

To determine the body frame size , measure the wrist with a tape measure and use the following chart to determine whether the person is small , medium , or large boned.

Women

Height under 5'2"

small = wrist size less than 5.5"

medium = wrist size 5.5" to 5.75"

large = wrist size over 5.75"

Height 5'5" to 5'5"

small = wrist size less than 6"

medium = wrist size 6" to 6.25"

large = wrist size over 6.25"

Height over 5'5"

small = wrist size less than 6.5"

medium = wrist size 6.5" to 7.5"

large = wrist size over 7.5"

Men over 5'5"

small = wrist size 5.5" to 6.5"

medium = wrist size 6.5" to 7.5"

large = wrist size over 7.5"

The thing is, I've gone from large framed to small going by that formula!

I really could only tell what my frame size is once I'd got a lot of weight off. At 73kg I'm smack in the middle of my healthy weight range, but I have too many bulgy bits and rolls, lol, therefore I need to be low in my healthy weight range to have fewer inches to pinch. So I'm small framed but tall.

I would ALWAYS have called myself large framed, its somewhat of a surprise that I"m really not.

I've got a large frame as determined by wrist measurement when I was a senior in high school and weighed 135 pounds (5'8" tall.) I was on the drill team and we had to weigh in every Thursday. If we weighed a pound too much, we were not allowed to dance that week. I was almost anorexic in how I ate that year so that I could dance. Crazy and probably no longer allowed in schools but this was 1973.

Of course, my size 11 feet and my "man hands" were kind of a tip-off. :) When shoulder pads were big in the 80s, I had to take them out of my clothes or I looked like I was ready to play football! Of course, now that they're not in style any more, I'm out of style. ;)

A few years ago, I went to the University of Texas Department of Kinesiology and had a thorough analysis to determine my BMR. The head of the department did the tests and he found that, yes, I have a large frame and that I carry an additional 15 pounds of weight due to it -- not just the bones but the muscles, tendons, tissues, etc. that are required to keep them connected and keep me functioning. This explains why at 135, my ribs protruded from my body!

I got down to 165 four years ago and thought it looked good. I was wearing size 12 and even a couple of size 10s. My doctor suggested 170 as a goal so that's what I'm going for now. According to my BMI, which I think is somewhat of a joke and the UT guy agreed with me, I would be at or just above "normal."

Hi, Longhorn! Well, today's the big game......wish I were in College Station. I was born and lived awhile in Bryan, so I know what a big deal it is to have a home game in such a small town. Where did you go to high school? I went to Lee in Baytown, and marched in the band. I used to be 5'9" and weighed 155. Now I am 5'8" and weigh 225, but have a 6.5 inch wrist measurement, which I have always known meant small/medium frame. I can't even wear bangle bracelets because they are too big. I also have broad shoulders, and had to remove the big pads in the 80's too. Remember when your blouse had shoulder pads, your jacket had shoulder pads, and finally, your coat had shoulder pads? Gee, I looked like a linebacker.....with big hair to balance it all out. It did make our butts look smaller, though! Hope you had a good TG and had a few good things to eat. Sounds like you are feeling good, too!

errrmmm... I am over 5'5" so I'm in this category:

Height over 5'5"

small = wrist size less than 5.5"

medium = wrist size 6.5" to 7.5"

large = wrist size over 7.5"

But my wrist is 6" around. Is there something wrong with your chart-thingy, or are >5'5" tall, 6" wristed women not supposed to exist?! :faint:

Hi, Bandit:

I went to Klein High School in Spring (back when there was only one 3A school instead of five 4A or 5A schools!) I have the opposite problem with bracelets, especially ankle bracelets, which are never big enough. I have to wear large rings, too, and my ring size is definitely affected by my weight. I can't believe it but my wedding ring is already feeling loose just three weeks after surgery but I think this cold weather we're having is helping, too.

My daughters have frames like yours. My twins are 5'9" with small, model-like frames (and figures, thank goodness!) :) My oldest daughter is 5'7" and a little curvier but not the least bit overweight on her small frame. My son is 6'3" and wears size 13 shoes. He's thin but has the large shoulders and as a Marine, works out every day so that he has some impressive muscles. I hope none of them have inherited the fat gene that runs on my side of the family. So far, they seem to favor their dad in that department.

I had a great Thanksgiving. I can't believe how I could have a taste or two of most everything and feel perfectly content with that. I didn't even mind that everything had to be pureed or mushie. I thought I'd be in Bandster Hell by now but so far, I have very little appetite but I enjoy food when I need to eat. I hope it lasts as long as possible!

Congratulations on an exciting game! Not the result I was hoping for, of course, but this just hasn't been our year. I'll have to live off the memories of 2005 a little longer, I guess. :) Take care!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
