Made it thru my 1st banded Thanksgiving!!!

Recommended Posts

Yeah me, I did well. Couldn't get the turkey down but I got the ham down ok, had a bite or two of sweet potatoes, and 3 small Cookies and that was it!!! I am so proud of myself! I guess I should have gotten some more veggies in but I think I did pretty good. I even treated myself to the cookies and still didn't consume the normal overload of holiday calories. Plus to top it all off, I finally hit my prepregnancy weight. I am now on my way to getting fine!

Banded 9/9/07 down 26lbs!!!!:whoo::clap2:

I did good too-i put one teaspoon of everything on my plate-about 6 things and didn't even eat half... was actually kinda disappointing-but wasn't disappointing on the scale this morning:)

Mbanja and Stacy73, congrats to you both. No Thanksgiving here in Israel, and I'm glad I didn't have to deal with it. I have a big family wedding up in Tel Aviv on 3.12 and I swear I am staying on my Doctor's instructions. I didn't go through all this to mess it up.

I'm on full liquids/pureed foods so I had butternut squash Soup and a tablespoon of pureed turkey and other similar foods. I couldn't eat all of it but I felt like I had eaten a huge plate full! Well, actually, I felt even better than that because I didn't feel stuffed but I felt very satisfied. After we went for a walk, I had a couple of bites of dessert and enjoyed that, too. I even had a little wine.

If my holiday meals are all like that, I'll be very happy! Even with the wonderful aromas and seeing everyone else with plates of food, I didn't feel the list bit deprived. It truly felt like magic! ;)

Congrats to everyone!! Bandpal, good luck holding out on wedding food!! But, hey, if you find something that will go down ok, don't deprive yourself, unless you are still in the liquid/mushie phase. Weddings are a time for celebration and being banded doesn't mean you can't enjoy special things from time to time. You never know one bite may satisfy but abstaining could lead to a full on bing. I have learned not to deprive myself cause the results are far worse than a small indulgence here and there.

Mbanja,

Great thread.

I made it yest. too. Was really nervous, as I have not told my in-laws. I feel really, really good about it because a few hours after the dinner I realized I did not miss dessert at all! I think the fear of getting sick when I got out really helps me limit my food intake.

A strange thing though...My daughter told me I looked nice (of course she knows), but NOTHING..I mean NOTHING...from my inlaws regarding my 50+ lb. weight loss.

Wouldn't you think someone would notice? Could that much of a weight loss go unnoticed????

If your family is like my family, they won't comment on how good I look, they would talk about when are your going to loose the rest. I realized they are the ones with the problem, not me.

50lbs is FANTASTIC. Can't wait until I have my surgery and can say such a thing, especially at holiday time.

I ate two thanksgiving dinners and actually did pretty good. I didn't overeat and didn't have any pbing episodes at all (actually I never have, knock on wood). I just stuck to veggies and meat and had a couple of bites of dessert. The scale stayed the same so I call that a victory.

Thank you Mbanja - thoughtful, solid advice. It'll come to the wedding with me.

Me too. I was kind of disappointed though. I spent all day cooking and kind of wanted to pig out, but was glad I couldn't.

***off topic, but can someone talk me through applying my ticker to my signature. I'm having problems with it***

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
