Still feel hungry

Recommended Posts

I’m 5 days post op sleeve. I feel like I can easily drink 3 oz maybe more at a time. I was told to just sip one ounce. Also I can’t tell the difference between hunger pains or stomach spazzing. How do you know when your hungry? I’m having an emotional hard time with my decision. I feel like I’ll never be able to enjoy food again.

I could do the same thing in the beginning thought it was weird. I could down a Protein Drink but Water was difficult and bothered me for 2months being upset i couldnt drink a whole water bottle only warm sips i already hated my decision to get the sleeve and regreted it for the first 2months. Im 3 months and i know longer say i regret anything. Im happy with my decision to do this and things get better. My favorite thing now is chuging a cold water bottle down before bed which i couldnt do in the beginning but now i can. Somedays its a fight like im starving to death its best to stay busy but other days im not very hungry and kinda could care less about food. For me if i feel if im starving and truly is hunger i should want to say ya ill drink that gross portein drink and for me 80% of the time id rather starve cuz im just craving Snacks and with all my old habits of emotional eatting just want to go with what I'm craving and how it will make me feel.. i enjoy food now! I eat alot of whatever my hubby is eatting. Tacos , shepherd pie ,California rolls! I just eat like half of a portion size and its been going good. Im happy where im at. Ive lost 50pounds in 3months. I have 40 more to go but i dont feel deprived or anything right now.

You got this! Remember the first month is the absolute worst but it does get better u will be sohappy u pushed urself to do the surgery!!! Get a fit bit thats also helped me get my steps in a day. I average about 13thousand steps a day. Any Questions feel free to ask. Take care!

Thank you! It’s just feeling really rough right now and I wish I could eat. Congrats on the weight loss! That’s awesome!!

I'm going into my 9th week (7/22). I experienced a lot of "head hunger," especially while watching tv! I have small cravings, but I just don't have access to it (don't buy anything for the house). Honestly, like BlueAngelEyes, I have to make myself eat sometimes. Just try to slow down while drinking (that's mostly for gas issues!). Just be prepared to keep up your Water and Protein intake (do the Protein Shakes as long as you can in the next few weeks. You got this!

You will eat again. But your relationship with food will change, as it should. Eating will become slower, less volume, and more mindful. It can actually become a bit of a chore at times. Eating out is not as fun and getting sick from eating too much is not fun. BUT......... this is all good. You did not have surgery just to continue on with old eating patterns. Food MUST lose it's pleasure and you MUST find other ways to find emotional release. This is what learning to become "normal" is all about. For me, food is becoming a pain, and exercise is becoming much more enjoyable. Everyone needs to find their new normal, and this will happen for you, too. It is OK to grieve the food, but pretty soon you will be celebrating the new life and activities that you did not have before. Hang in there. You have to focus on what good things are coming to you down the road. As hard as it seems now, the love of food is not one of them.

When I was a few days out I kept thinking I was feeling hunger and was mad because I thought that was supposed to be gone! My nutritionist said nope, that's just stomach acid and spasming, it'll pass. and it did! Trust the process!!!

I'm almost 7 months out and I still do not get a "hungry" feeling. I do enjoy food, just in much smaller amounts, it takes a few months. This time is really tough, just hang in there!

I hated my decision about a week after my surgery too, almost like "mourning" not being able to eat regular food or enjoy it again. I do enjoy it more now and (unfortunately) don't have issues with eating things I shouldn't so I still do sometimes. I am having a very hard time with "head hunger" and I do get hungry but can, luckily, eat less. I had a hard time telling the difference between actual hunger and spasms that first couple of weeks. I just focused on Protein and it did get better. It will get better, but that regret is normal in the beginning, my surgeon even told me to expect it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
