New Forum Idea: for the young folk

Recommended Posts

So, older people, please don't get upset with me.

We have a forum for women. We have one for men. Hell, theres one for single people to meet. Can there please be one for people who got WLS as young adults/teens? There are almost no resources for us. I got sleeved shortly before my 19th birthday. I want to talk to other people who have gone through college with WLS, and how they navigated the party scene, and the dining hall, and being away from their doctor! I know it seems weird but I want to tell people about how I figured out how to hack my campus Starbucks menu so I could still have stuff there.

Getting WLS as a young adult or teen is a very different experience than getting sleeved as a working adult, as most people do. It's isolating. It's lonely. Help me make a community. Help me make it easier.

We had age-based forums for many years but sadly they died off. Over the last few years, we've been consolidating forums instead of creating new ones.

Perhaps start an aged based thread/post, put the age group sought in the thread/post subject header. You may get some out of the age group sought posting but hopefully that will be received in the spirit intended.

Agree that this is a good alternative.

Forums are useful to a certain extent but I think a lot of us just check out the what’s new posts and reply to those without having any idea which forum they are in. Heck I think I have even inadvertently replied to men’s room posts by doing this!

Yeah I have too, and I got called down for it,but it was quite a Time Ago. So I guess I'm gun shy and check out each heading before commiting to share my viewpoint.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
