I went and had an EGD this morning after having a pylori test come back negative. I have ulcers and they are upping my Dexilant to 60 mg from the 30mg I take. I also have to go back in 2 weeks for another EGD. My question is what should I avoid and what things can I do to help? I have not seen my Dr. yet but will be making an appointment for next week. Thanks in advacne

I would expect that they would have told you if they wanted you to do anything special. When I have had an EGD that involved particularly aggressive sampling - somewhat similar to ulcer damage, though mechanically induced - they sent me home on a low Fiber diet (usually liquid or soft stuff the first day) for a week or so. No whole grains, seedy or unpeeled fruit, fibrous veg (as my BIL put it when he was on one - a Wonder bread diet - all the things that you should avoid for a normal, healthy diet are good, all the things you should load up on - fresh fruits, veg, seeds, grains, etc, - are bad; donuts and cinnamon rolls were on their "recommended" list. Yeah, right, lol!

In the absence of anything specific, I would just take it easy on overly aggressive foods, either overly fibrous or acidic, until they tell you otherwise.

Alcohol and NSAIDS are big no-no's. The acid in coffee can cause problems, as well.

I'm so sorry to hear about your ulcers hon!!! Take that medicine, especially the carafate! Exactly as they tell you. One of the things that is a hidden acid is dairy--like milk, whey, and yogurt. So I'd avoid that.

I'd go for soft meats such as foil baked white fish, poached chicken (minced with meat lube aka low sugar, low fat, low carb gravy), ground turkey, ground chicken, shrimp, eggs, egg whites. I'd go for very soft veg like canned green Beans, broccoli and cauliflower cooked to beyond hell. Applesauce, canned pears, canned sugar free peaches. Mashed cauliflower rather than mashed potatoes. Mashed butternut squash or even brown butter pumpkin is an awesome savory and low carb side to your meat. You can make a bunch of tuna salad (the recipe can be repeated with canned chicken and also canned salmon and crab).

Low residue diet for sure as @RickM suggests. LOW LOW LOW acid and low spice/heat (chiles chile peppers etc).

Heal quickly hon!

Excellent Advice @ Fluffy Chix. much useable there. And I second taking your Carafate properly and at the right intervals. Yeah, tastes about as appealing as White Flour Paste but it does coat and heal them painful ulcers, and as somebody who has woke up with right subcostal pain from jejunal ulceration, PAIN IS NOT WORTH MISSING MEDS!

They have not prescribed me the Carafate at this time. Will be speaking with or seeing the Dr. Monday. The Dr. that did my EGD upped the Dexilant and that is all. Thank you all for the food suggestions. I will make sure to eat correctly to help my situation.

If they do see if your insurance will cover the liquefied. My Siver Scripts, the little happy band of cheap- freaks, won't so I have to dissolve the big white pills in Water and slurp down the tasteless thick slurry that ensues every 6 hours- 6am-noon- 6pm- midnight into perpetuity, at least since October 12th, 2018. Fear when they autopsy Me someday my spine will have turned into a row of undissolved meds instead of Bone and vertebrae discs. Tra La La Tweed-el Dee Dee !👈😛👉

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
