KishaG 61 Posted September 11, 2019 I have already posted about my issue with hiccups that started on Fri just prior to 3 weeks out and what they told me to do. Well, yesterday was my first whole day back on liquids and I restarted the carafate on Mon. Well, not only do I still have the hiccup issue, yesterday I had the most horrific chest pain. The only reason I didn't totally freak out is I knew the pain was GERD related but it was much worse than anything I ever had pre-surgery. Feels like I can't swallow at times as well. I called this morning and got an appt for this afternoon but I am wondering has anyone else experienced something like this? 1 GradyCat reacted to this
FluffyChix 17,415 Posted September 11, 2019 It's highly unusual to have GERD with RNY. Not impossible, but it usually signals a different problem. But it is possible to have gastritis with RNY. That's likely what you have and that's gonna take a while to resolve. You need to talk to your doc. You're about the time to have a stricture show up. ((hugs)) and hang in there. 1 GradyCat reacted to this

So essentially when they fixed my hernia during surgery did my GERD I previously had just kind of go away and now it's probably gastritis? Honest question- I was thinking my GERD would be gone after surgery..but I'm back to same symptoms and worse pain. I hate having strictures dilated but, if that's what I need for this pain to go away..schedule me now!! lol
Bastian 458 Posted September 12, 2019 Could well be oesophageal spasm which is horrendous and can make you feel like there is pressure at the back of your throat and can burn or just be 9/10 pain if the spasm is strong enough. Something is going on seeing as you have the ongoing hiccups. Hope you get to the bottom of it

Prescribed me dicyclomine, a gut antispasmodic and added another day to my liquids only before slowly going back to solids. Had the hiccups as soon as I got up but thankfully no chest pain. Hopefully this stuff along with carafate and pepcid will work. But he said if I'm not doing better by Monday to call back to get seen again.
elcee 3,341 Posted October 15, 2019 How are you doing. I am 9 months post OP and have been having violent hiccups and burps all day. Had silent reflux symptoms last night and most of the day too. Not happy, I thought this was fixed.
