Need encouragement during stall

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I can dish out advice, but can't seem to take my own advice as related to my current stall of one month. I try eating less, eating more, exercising, etc. And I can't break this stall. I feel like a failure!

How long have you stalled for, and how did you break the stall? I can't be in maintenance yet! Help. I need some hand-holding to mentallt fet thru this!

I'm right there with you. I'm in a stall at the moment myself. Have been for a week.

I think it depends on the reason for the stall. I stop weighing myself when I "stall" and once I notice my rings and belts being looser, I go back and weigh myself again. I'm also strength training as well and know that muscle weighs a lot more than fat by volume, so I'm imagining that it's not a stall, but a sign of getting "buff"....lol

Good luck

Ok, so you know the drill...

What are you eating and drinking...how can we possibly give you info without knowing the deets, girlfriend. Stalls suck though, I will say that.

Are you weighing, measuring and logging every bite? If you are not, you know the drill. Are you drinking any calories? If you are, you know the drill.

Are you on any medicines, what age, and menopause status are you.

Do you have any medical probs? (ie PCOS, thyroid)

Are you sure no weight loss NOR loss of inches this past month? Cuz sometimes the scale lies and the inches move. That isnt't a stall.

Stalls are part of the process. The only reason you would want to consult your doctor is if you have one that lasts 4 weeks. 2 week-3 weeks stalls are not uncommon after gastric bypass. I have had 2 stalls: one lasted about 3 weeks. The other lasted for about 2 weeks. Follow the eating plan carefully, perhaps up your Protein intake, drink more Water if possible, exercise more if you can.

Thanks, all! I do track everything I put in my mouth. Nutritionist recently told me to up my calories from 800 to at least 1000, and that certainly didn't help me to get out of this stall.!! Work out with a trainer 2 times a week, walk every day. I guess I need to drop my calories back down to no more than 800 and increase my exercise and see if that helps. Just frustrated!

Ughhhh! The pits feeling! Just a thought hon. Can you just drop the carbs to about 30-40g per day and keep calories up around the 1000 mark by adding fats/protein and see if that helps? I'm sorry this is happening!! Also, did you only just recently start working with a trainer? Are you doing anything different?

I have been in a stall for the last 6 weeks... well, gaining and losing the same 3 lbs. I stuck with the program and now the weight is moving again. The advice I would give, based on what I've just gone through, is to just keep doing what you are supposed to be doing. I don't know why we have these stalls, but for some reason my body is now on the move again. Hang in there!

Yay! Stall is broken! Lost 1.6 pounds in last 2 days! Went back down to no more than 800 calories and that seems to have done the trick. Thank you all for your kind support.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
