Weird fluttering/seizing/twisting feeling in stomach after VSG

Recommended Posts

I'm 4 weeks post-op after VSG, and I noticed that when my stomach is empty, I get this weird fluttering/seizing/twisting feeling in it. It wouldn't describe it as painful, but it's definitely unpleasant.

I can feel the sensation about to come on for a few seconds, and then it happens for a few seconds, and then it's over. Sometimes it happens a few times per hour, and sometimes only 2-3 times per day.

Does anyone else experience this or know what it is? Are these just hunger pangs, and I'm so unfamiliar with them that I'm just not used to it?

If I haven’t eaten a lot for awhile I feel an empty scooped out tightening feeling. It’s almost like I am pulling in my stomach muscles to zip up tight pants. If I eat or drink it goes away. It happens rarely.

I am 6.5 months post-op and have had a cramping nausea feeling in my stomach since surgery. I'm not sure what it is caused by and am considering doing an endoscopy to find out if something is wrong. Like you, it doesn't last too long. Maybe 15 seconds. It comes and goes and is unpleasant.

Yes, I think you should have yourself checked out, sounds like spasming but I'm sure curious to see why it is happening. Please keep US updated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
