badwolfiee 2 Posted September 6, 2019 I am 29 with a BMI of 41 and have been considering WLS for a while. I have OHP (Oregon health plan) so I needed to get a referall to see a bariatric surgeon. I just had an annual check up with my PCP and mentioned WLS. She didn't seem super enthusiastic about the idea and after mentioning I'd like a referral twice finally took the info to do so. I mean I do meet the requirements for approval with a BMI over 40. I'm just hoping my referral gets approved soon. I hate waiting but at least I've got things started now. Lol anyone with experience dealing with OHP? Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
AZhiker 2,253 Posted September 7, 2019 My PCP was my biggest cheer leader. She was so encouraging and supportive, and documented my progress over the 6 months so thoroughly that there was no question of insurance denial from her end of things. She knew exactly the right verbiage to use and all the "buzz" words the insurance company needed to see. When I had doubts, she gave words of wisdom that bolstered my courage. I would suggest considering another PCP who will be supportive and believe in the surgical process. Some just don't understand why surgery is the last chance for some of us - no amount of dieting will change the damage we have done to our metabolisms, and for many the greatest chance of longterm success rests in the surgical option. I so wish that mine was a little more supportive. I think I'm going to continue with this one because she did push the referral through for me as well as take down important info for it. I'm just hoping I hear good news soon. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

She had not seen me since surgery and oh my goodness, she did such a happy dance! It was really great to see her Celebrate my weight loss like it was her own! Very nice. I wish you all the success and hope there will not be any delays in your process. 1 badwolfiee reacted to this
