Drain sites close from the inside upwards. If the skin healed first then the hole underneath would end up being a pocket called a sinus which would fester and become infected. A couple of steri strips and small dressing over them should be fine. Don't touch or pick them. They don't sound infected. It is normal for wound sites to be hot pink and tender and ooze. An infection would be very red, hot and very painful and the redness would be growing in diameter each day.
