So what are you unable to eat now?

I have real trouble with anything spicy now. Just tears me up. Also really struggle with meats. Potatoes are a definite no go (unless they're mashed). I feel like I don't really have a set of foods I can "go to" that I know won't hurt my stomach. Every day is a bit of an adventure honestly. Just hit 120 days post-op and have lost 100 pounds almost. I can do like a McChicken from McDonald's or a junior bacon cheeseburger from Wendy's when I'm out and in a pinch. Anyone have any advice on really safe to digest, easy to make home meals?

I find sheet pan meals or crockpot Soups the easiest to make for weeknights.

Like a few others, I have no issue with any foods at this point. I get full very quickly, so I try to make good choices the vast majority of the time. But, occasionally I’ll have a few bites of cake/ice cream/ whatever.

I brought coffee back into my life during the 2nd month. I have 1-2 cups a day now, no sugar (I weaned myself off of having it in my coffee pre-surgery), just a bit of milk. I’ve found that it helps keep me regular. Well, and I live in Western OR, and dislike beer, I think I’d get kicked out if I also didn’t drink coffee!

Agree with all of this.
I mean if we can’t make good/great choices the majority of the time, why on earth did we do this, ya know?

My goat yoga was sponsored by a local microbrewery (FYI.... I love beer and miss is desperately)
and hubs went with us—he’s no fool... what a great excuse to sit in a tap room and drink beer before noon on a Saturday when your wife no longer can drink beer much.

Anyway, he was nice enough to order a second beer and leave about 4 ounces left for me when I was finished.
It was AMAZING and since it was noon and I’d been fasting, my sleeve was able to hold the 4oz and it was just enough. The rest of the day I was 100% on point and when I logged it I laughed because it was about 50 calories.
That was my first beer since January. Did I mention that I used to LOVE beer? 🤣🤣🤣

Many many things can be done IN MODERATION.... just not OFTEN

I'm really struggling with red meat (which I don't need anyways), anything starchy (like potatoes), and bread (which I have cut out about 99%, still have a bite every now and then).

I find if I stick to lean Protein, fruit, veggies, nuts, and seeds, I have no issues.

It’s SO weird how different we all are. I was away for my birthday weekend and among the things I ate successfully were swordfish, hummus, tzatziki, salad, egg frittata, filet mignon, mashed potato and—my daughter ‘s spin on “cake”—a slice of baguette with butter and jam. Everything agreed with me just fine (and I lost 2 pounds over the weekend). I think it goes to show that you just never know what will happen.

I'm four and a half months out and I've found I can no longer eat bread or Pasta of any kind unless it's gluten free, and even that I can only eat small amounts of. I also have trouble with liquid dairy products. Whole milk is completely not doable, as is more than a couple of bites of normal ice cream. I do drink almond milk sometimes or have non-dairy ice creams or frozen yogurts, but not often. cheese is fine though! It's just liquid dairy that does me in. Kind of a weird quirk.

Steak - anything beef really. bread. eggs (but I had issues with that before too). Pasta.

Steak or anything beef they tell you to try to avoid or only eat little amount of as beef is very fatty and also very hard to digest.

Bread is a no-no. It will clog up your stomach something fierce and believe me you'll feel it! Try gluten free, that's your best option.

Pasta is along the same lines as bread. It's just too much gluten for that tiny stomach you will have and it doesn't digest well.

Tryed pineapple yesterday the second it went down i wanted to throw it back up. Worst feeling ever! Then today my husband was drinking pinapple juice and like a dummy i took a sip of that cold tasty goodness. Major regret! Never ever eatting anything with pineapple again, worst thing ever!!!

oh yea - pineapple is pretty acidic. I couldn't eat much of it even BEFORE surgery...

Speaking of milk... I’m perfectly ABLE to drink it, but 18 months out I’m realizing that it smells/tastes odd a lot sooner than the expiration date. I mean, within about two days of purchasing milk with a date well in the future, I start thinking it’s gone off.

It’s not actually off, but I have a hard time drinking it straight up unless it’s JUST been opened. I was a huge milk drinker before and very able to tell when milk was turning, so this is bizarre.

So can I ask a question without trying to sound rude?

So many people mention Pasta, potatoes, bread, etc.

I’m actually kind of stunned that any of us would try those things. I can see reserving having something like special occasions, but isn’t this the very kinds of food that got us in this place?

I’m almost 8 months out and still don’t usually eat over 20 carbs in a day. Protein takes up about 80-90% of what I eat and I kinda just assumed it was like that for everyone?

I think people are more likely to eat those kinds of things (or a limited amount, anyway) once they hit maintenance. Or at least I hope so. I didn't touch anything like that while I was in weight loss mode - and I don't eat much of it now that I'm in maintenance (actually, just bread - occasionally. I still don't/won't eat pasta)

Yeah, Pasta is something that I decided was never going to be in my diet again.
I had a wedding to attend in July and they had bbq buffet. I tried one bite of Mac and cheese from my husbands plate and it was gross. Everyone else said it tasted good, so I know it wasn’t just bad Mac and cheese, lol

I also had part of a piece of bread with almost the same response.
I got caught in a situation where I had to order out, and I got a turkey sandwich and tried to keep just enough bread on it so it wouldn’t fall apart.
Again, it tasted awful and got stuck so I finally abandoned my dignity and ate the turkey and cheese with my fingers.

I’m still about 10-15 pounds from maintenance and have zero idea how I’m going to “get over” my fear of carbs.

Will be interesting

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
