Almost 2 yrs out VSG surgery past goal weight and petrified of gaining weight back

Recommended Posts

I will be 2 yrs out VSG this coming October. I’m down from 311 to 141 past my goal if 150. I’m obsessed with not gaining weight back. Still weighing myself daily and to the point that I will force myself to vomit if I think I’ve eaten something “bad”. Anyone relate?

Have you considered seeing a counselor that specializes in eating disorders? It truly sounds like you are on that path.

Making yourself bring food back up is not good at all.

Please do yourself a favor and get help while you are still in the earlier stages.

I feel sure that you will have plenty of support here as well.

Goid luck and hang in there.

That definitely sounds like an eating disorder. I think you should see a counsellor

How long did it take you to get to your goal?

Yikes. That doesn't feel like a good thing. I agree, ask your surgeon to refer you to a bariatric therapist to work through things. ((hugs))

I think the vomiting is where you cross the line. I think there is nothing wrong with daily weighing and with eating on a scheduled plan to avoid regain. We are supposed to adopt new behaviors with food and eat healthy most of the time.

Congrats on your success! You must look & feel amazing.
I get you’re wanting to hold on to what you’ve accomplished. I’m sure I’ll be protective of my weight once I get there. You made the choice to do this surgery so you’d be healthy . Health includes mind, body & soul. I started therapy as soon as I made the decision to embark on this journey because I wanted to be the best version of myself. I’m sure you want to be the best version of yourself or you wouldn’t have written this post. If I were you I’d start therapy. I kind of really like it. I get to talk about myself for 45 minutes to someone who actually hears me. What’s so bad about that? Ha!!! Best of luck. Make the decision to be your own best friend ❤️

@robynt201 I agree with FluffyChix above. Weighing yourself daily and monitoring what you've eaten to avoid regain are good things. BUT, if you're as obsessed as you imply and have crossed the line into purging, you've traded one eating disorder for another.

Make an appointment with a doctor, consider counseling.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
