It is different for everyone, but your surgeon should be able to give you some guidance based on what they know about you and the post op program they have you on.

Don't be too upset when you come home from surgery that you may weigh more than when you went in...IV fluids and inflammation contribute to temporary Fluid gain, it won't last long.

it varies tremendously from person to person. I lost 16 lbs the first month. I would say most people lose somewhere in the 15-25 lb range. Of course there are those who lose less or more than that, but I would say (just from observation from hanging out on bariatric boards for the last five years), that that's about the average range.

I learned really quickly NOT to compare myself to others. After losing 16 lbs the first month and being a slow loser the whole time, I would have been very disappointed had I done that. Just stick to your plan and the weight WILL come off, whether fast or slow. I was very committed to my program and ended up losing all of my excess weight.

Depends are you on liquids for that month or are you progressing through stages already..

Low Calories intake is what matters most at the early stages with high Protein

My dr didnt give me a goal for the first month but did say I need to lose 40% of my excess within 3 months. So that woukd be right around 47 pounds. At first I was like wth!? There is no way, but after losing 18 pounds in the 1st 2 weeks, seems much more realistic!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
