I saw a little of the footage on the television. I wish there was more I could give besides thoughts and prayers to everyone.

Hello September Sleevers!! Had my surgery yesterday. Though I am far from an expert I want to stress a few points. When your reading comments from veteran sleevers and you find a pattern of the same responses do them. I have read walk walk walk to help with the gas pain. It helped A LOT. Also, sip sip sip ... incredible useful sipping away on clear fluids. Walking even helped my pain where the small incision was. If your in pain don't try to be tough and bare through it. Stay ahead of the pain. Ice packs ... feels so good. It's almost 24 hours since I was rolled off to surgery. And all those repeated advice points helped alot. I know it differs from person to person. I hope this helps to ease some anxiety for those who are waiting.

All the above is so true!

I am currently on day 4 post-op. Gas pain has decreased a ton. I am walking. I am sipping my Water. And I am sipping my Protein Shakes. I can easily drink an ounce or so at one time. Not eating solids yet for a couple weeks. My pain is now more centered around the main incision. Boy is that painful! But this pain is nothing compared to my 3 c-sections. I tried to take my pain medicine every 4 hours for the fist 48 hours, but now I am taking it 2-3 times a day. Definitely before I go to sleep.

I'm 4 days post-op too. I am not having trouble drinking or getting my Protein or fluids in. I am sure the incision pain is gone for you since you had c-sections. Mine has subsided. I have been using ice-packs. My incision hurts when I get up and my belly weight succumbs to gravity. I did stay ahead of the pain in the hospital when it was time for pain meds I took them. I did take them the first night home. I have a high tolerance for pain. I had 3 natural child births. No epidural and no pain meds. I did ask for pain medication when I had my first child but the answer I got was "sorry your 8 cm you can't have pain meds." By my 3rd the nurse was watching my contractions on the monitor and said "I have never seen anyone in labor so calm and serene." So, it's a good comparison reference for me. What's the best thing you have experienced since surgery? I am type 2 diabetic. I was diagnosed when I was a 108 lbs and I was 38 yrs old. So far my blood glucose has been reading awesome. I have to keep myself from crying ( happy tears). My blood sugars would run almost to 190 after a Protein Shake. And I was taking 2 different oral medications, tresiba injections, and humalog. I am not taking anything[emoji7]! I'm praying that trend continues.

I got all of my Protein Shakes in for the first time today. And if you include the shakes, broth, and jello... I definitely got in my Fluid requirement. Most of my belly is fine now, but that main incision where they pulled the stomach out still hurts bad when I move. Sometimes I feel like someone just stabbed me. I don't feel anything at the other incision sites. Taking pain medicine 2 times a day today (one before bed and one in the middle of the day).

It is funny... I have never had a problem with blood sugar, but I have a couple high blood glucose levels after surgery (in the hospital). Also noted my white blood cells count is a little elevated, along with my liver function results. I didn't see these results while I was in the hospital, but looked up lab results in my patient portal online. I am going to have to ask for a repeat of the labs when I go back to see the doc. My temp has been slightly high for me, but always under 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Oh, my blood pressure was up in the hospital too... another thing that isn't normal for me. But all in all... I feel pretty good.

Your blood sugars are probably high because of the glucose in your IV. This may be why no one brought it up. The same for your blood pressure. When you are in pain and discomfort it will go up. Definitely check them both again once you are feeling better. I would not be surprised if they are back to normal.

I’m On day 6 out of surgery, doing great and yea the walking helps the gas pain. Had to take some Miralax to get things rolling and that helped a lot with the bloat i had. Having no problem drinking Water. Sugars have been on the lower end of 70. Been on Clear Liquids, follow up is tomorrow to move to full liquids and i can’t wait lol.

Normally I would agree with you, but I didn't have dextrose in my IV. They did have me drink a lot of apple juice several hours before admission... but blood sugar was normal on admission and had no sugar afterwards. My blood sugar is usually normal no matter how much physical stress I am under. Also, my blood pressure was elevated before they started my IV. Didn't consciously "feel" stressed at the time either. Having had 3 previous c-sections which did include dextrose IV and pain... never happened before! Not really worried about either, but it was strange for me! But I do think they are probably back to normal by now. I am actually more anxious to get a repeat liver panel... those numbers were most concerning to me, by bilirubin is normally on the high side of normal or slightly above normal... it was much higher than my norm. All of my liver function tests were out of whack.

Thanks! Sometimes it stinks to be a nurse, because we know too much! lol. I see the doc again next week and I will be asking for repeat labs. I am guessing my WBC count will be back to normal too... they were high, I had a slightly elevated temp for a couple days too... but back to normal for that as well. All of my labs and doctors notes are available to read in a patient portal... that is the only reason I know all of what was off in the hospital that they didn't mention to me.

The pain medication has a huge affect on BP and blood glucose. I had just had saline fluids because of my diabetes. Glad your feeling well. Today is the first day I have not felt hunger or had any cravings. I think my head finally caught up with my surgery.

Had my sleeve surgery yesterday. I just got home an hour ago. My stomach feels like i did 1 thousand crunches. My nausea was very bad at the beginning but has pretty much gone away. The gas pain is real. I had it in my upper back up and over my chest and both shoulders. 5 walks and 5 times using deep breathing, only 1 shoulder has some discomfort. Each day things get better and less sore. I do not regret my surgery at all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
