Chattanoogagirl 23 Posted August 26, 2019 I have a question: First of all, I am 3 days away from my first consult with the surgeon. My question to anyone is,,,,,,,,what did ya'll do in preparation for you first consult as far as your diet? I just got back from Florida yesterday at my starting weight of 168. I checked my weight this morning & it was 171.8. I did EVERYTHING that I THOUGHT WAS RIGHT. I had my broiled Proteins (chicken, tuna), my carbs were sweet potatoes WITHOUT butter, i drank only Water, and green tea & my sugar was 1 packet of stevia. While a day at the beach only consisted of bottled water & fruits with lots of water content to help with not getting dehydrated. Had my share of 2 mile walks on the beach as well. What in the crap did I do wrong?

What in the crap did I do wrong? Wow sounds like you did everything right. I didn't do anything as far as my diet to prepare honestly. It was back in January when I had the first appointment with my surgeon. I prepared a bunch of questions that I had for him that's about it. Addressing my diet was the dietitian who I saw once a month for 6 months.

What in the crap did I do wrong? First appointment? Just do what you normally do diet wise. Having your weight/bmi wherever it is now is best. After your appointment, if they think you are a viable candidate for surgery, you will be scheduled with a nutritionist. They will give you a diet they recommend and goals you must meet with regards to weight loss. Most people have to show they are trending downward from their first appointment to your last. Some docs don't care if you accidentally gain, others will disqualify you for it. As for your weight... at first glance you might not qualify, but what is your BMI? You don't have to tell me or anywone that, just asking so you are thinking about it. Normally you have to have a BMI of 40 to qualify. A BMI of 35 may qualify you if you have co-morbidities. I don't know how tall you are, so maybe you do fall into one of those categories. Calculate your BMI and that will tell you if it is even worth scheduling an appointment. My BMI 36.4. I only qualify because I have severe sleep apnea plus high cholesterol (but controlled with medications). I also have GERD. BUT.....I have stage f2 NASH (NON-ALCOLOIC STETOHEPATITIS), Pre diabetic with insulin resistance, high blood pressure with high blood cholesterol, and benign cyst on pancreatic tail . I was told for me that even though I am not severely obese for my 5'2 height, but all my other contributors make a candidate for surgery. This is alot less expensive than a liver transplant and alot less time consuming in even waiting on a liver & I too have obstructive sleep apnea.

Is your primary care doc supportive of bariatric surgery? If yes... you have a higher chance of being approved. Hoping you get what you need to be healthier! 1 Rays of Sunshine reacted to this

Chelle Jett 6 Posted August 26, 2019 Good morning, I'm currently at my preop appointment. It's a all day thing. Sept 5 is rapidly approaching. Each day I'm a little more unnerved. I feel like a bride who has spent a year planning her wedding. I just want it over.

My journey started in January and my surgery is September 23. I'm very anxious to get it over with as well. Good luck with everything and keep me posted 😊

LL1982 16 Posted August 27, 2019 Hello everyone, OK, so technically I'm not a September sleever. My surgery date is August 30th. Not much went on with the August thread, so I decided to post on here as well. This weekend I was feeling really excited, today, not so much. The fear is starting to sink in. Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing about everyone's journey. By the way (I know I can only speak for myself), but the 2 week liquid pre-op diet hasn't been as hard as I thought it would be. I've just gotten used to it.

That's what I'm worried about making it through that time and being hungry. At least you only have 3 more days to go. Good luck and keep me posted 😊
