Average loss per week after surgery?

Recommended Posts

For those of you who had band to bypass and had a lot to lose, what was your average weekly weight loss in the first 6 months? Year? I know every person is different and it depends on what you do with the tool, I'm just trying to understand what's possible. For reference, I'm female and 41 and have 165 to lose to be at my goal weight (I need to lose 25 pre-surgery).

Thanks for sharing!

I'm 24 weeks and 5 days post-op. I will be 6 months on the 25th. I've lost 75 pounds and have averaged 3.125 pounds a week so far. I am, however, losing very slow now due to eating more. I had the vsg surgery. Good luck to you!

I am 7 weeks and 1 day post-op. I've lost 48 lbs and average about 6.8lbs a week. I have also been told tall men lose the weight faster. I had a revision from RNY to DS.

Granted you need to be mindful that your situation will be completely different from ours. You will lose the weight at what your body is set to do. Just focus on learning to eat again and get those Proteins.

Hope this helps.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
