Very long stall just after surgery 😟

Recommended Posts

I’m about 7 weeks post-op and after losing 15 lbs in the first 10 days after surgery I’ve lost less than 5 lbs in the almost 6 weeks since. I know that stalls are common but this seems excessively long so early on.

I really don’t know what I’m doing wrong and am getting really dejected. I track my food meticulously and have been averaging around 600 or 700 calories a day, never more than 800, and walk about 2 miles most days. I feel like it might be hormonal since I have PCOS which has caused issues in the past.

Has anyone else had this happen and how did you break out of it?

I've already had a slight downturn in my wieght loss as well. It was as if my body was taking a breath and sighing after losing so much weight pre- and post-op. Then it started up again. The only thing I did was nothing other than drinking one more Protein Shake a day. Some days I even ate a bit more calories to keep my metabolism up.

Remember a stall is technically when weight-loss has been the same for a longer period. So if you are keeping to your program, dont beat yourself up. You are doing what you need to do and your body will eventually keep up.

What was your pre-op starting weight? How much did you go down during pre-op?

I am about 8 weeks post up and I dealt with the same exact thing as you up until now, and I also have PCOS. The stall really messed with my head and I began to feel extremely down. However, I just stuck to it and kept going, and by now (week 8) I FINALLY went down two pounds, which felt like the biggest milestone (which is crazy considering how much I lost the first few weeks). Keep going, chin up, you got this. Keep doing what you're doing, we are all different, but as long as you are sticking to your plan it will happen. Even if it's slower than you anticipated. I realized I have to throw all expectations I had prior to surgery out the window, and just accept the journey as it comes. In a few months from now I'm sure you will be laughing at yourself thinking "why was I even worried to begin with?" Don't worry!

just stick to your program. Stalls happen and they're annoying. As long as you're sticking to your plan, though, they'll eventually break and you WILL lose the weight.

PCOS here too & slow (comparatively) weight loss. Though I've been pretty slow & steady the entire time. I never had a good week like you did though - with 15 lost in one week. I think even my week of surgery was like 6 pounds. I'm just about week 12 now & I've had one week where I lost half a pound. Some are 1.5 pounds. Some are 4 pounds. I'm just trekking on.

I get a ton of Water in 65 oz most days and I aim for 65 G Protein most days. There are days where it's like 40 oz and 40 g of protein, but I hit the 65/65 most of the time.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
