Anyone have CT Scans few weeks after surgery to pinpoint issues?

Recommended Posts

Was admitted last night due to struggling with what my DR. has indicated is out of character for a usual 'oops I overdid it and my pouch is unhappy/overly sensitive.

I had an upper GI last week during which I had to try to swallow this horrible dishwater detergent like substance. It was an absolute nightmare.

Has anyone else had CT scans done fairly soon after surgery? Did you have to drink soapy crud or ??

For a CT scan the most they would do is give you a contrast solution through an IV. But not all CT's call for contrast. Sorry you are having such trouble I will keep you in my prayers!

Yes. I had one with contrast and a barium swallow and an xray.

I was full of poo....

Yes, I drank the same soapy liquid. I was one of the worst things ever I've had to do. They found microscopic bubbles and were worried I had a leak so they did the upper gi and said they didn't see a leak.

I hope you feel better soon!

I had a ct but was unable to drink the contrast so they did it iv. Unfortunately all it could do was rule out any immediate problems. It can't see a leak.

they refused to do a CT scan even though that is what I was TOLD I was being admitted for.

It was such a crushing disappointment and a HUGE waste of time in the hospital.

I can't even talk about how awful it was.

Was it a regular Dr that admitted you or your bariatric Dr? My surgeon told me next time to call them and come to their hospital to be evaluated...our local ER had no idea what to do with me.

I had both the X-ray and the CT where I had to drink that nasty stuff. It’s 8 years later, and I still remember that nasty crap that made me throw up multiple times. But both scans did catch my problems quickly. I had to do one last month and just put that nasty taste taste in the forefront of my mind. Thankfully I didn’t vomit uncontrollably this time. But those scans do pinpoint problems if there are any.

I had one the day after my surgery in the hospital. Trying to gulp down that barium after the surgery was not fun. But it cleared me to graduate from liquids to mushy diet.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
