If you eat the same amount as usual but drink then surely people would be using this as a form of weight loss... despite feeling hungry. I'm not here to convince anyone to do anything; just presenting information. However, if you search through the forum and find threads on people who have regained, one of the recurring habits is eating and drinking at the same time. If you want to try it, go for it. froufrou 678 Posted August 19, 2019 My doubt isn't about regain, it's about the claim that drinking after eating makes you not absorb you calories thereby making you lose weight.
Frustr8 7,886 Posted August 19, 2019 Yeah it can push the food along so fast you can't absorb calories, especially if you are part of the general Bypass family, your digestion starts much farther down in the proximal/or/distal end of your jejunem and you are naturally now at a caloric deficiency and this only compounds the malnutrition, sad to say. As the Old Carnival Barker said " YOU pay Your 💰 money, YOU take your choice" well when we "BOOKED in" our surgeons probably told us, to guarantee good weight loss, a modicum of perfect digestion is given up. In my case I went in more than twice the BMI an 70+ woman. should carry, I needed to LOSE weight before I lost my LIFE and /or I developed all the hereditary diseases I was potential heiress to. The fact that I HADN'T was more Good Luck than Good Planning and my PCP was starting to have a conniption fit that his fancy- shamancy diets weren't working. Want the dictionary definition of conniption? A fit of hysterical excitement or anger, and YES that is exactly how Dr Carroll saw it in October 2017 when I became the ONLY PERSON in his knowledge to ever GAIN 30 pounds with one month of Phenteramine therapy. Oldest person I ever Saw have a tantrum, and like I said, I've been around "since Hector was a pup" and He now has gray on his muzzle. But many of the Things have resolved, I am now. 188 down from 365+, surgeon/ bariatric staff. was SATISFIED with anything below 200, I want to attempt to stay on track to 175, that's MY GOAL! And Doctor Tantrum- Thrower, now he's.PO.end thinks I've lost TOO Much Too Quickly, should have watched What He Said-- for I am nothing but a Compliant Soul , I follow Medical Advice when all's said and done! And although without clothes on, I have blobby stretched out skin where the blubber used to be, barbed I am a Firecracker if not a full- fledged stick of Dy-noh-mite! Honey for a 73 year broad I am looking pretty fine, never was petite, won't start NOW but I look as good as the average over-70 RockStar, and facing the facts there are a lot of 60s and 70s music icons there these days. Always was prettier than Mick Jagger, even at my Worst!😛👍🎶🎸👵 1 Slownstedy reacted to this
froufrou 678 Posted August 19, 2019 I know what a conniption is... I have been known to have them 😂 I can't drink and eat anyway - it makes me vomit/slime. I was just thinking that this would be the perfect way for a messed up brain to think they can lose weight. 1 sillykitty reacted to this
Sailor Blue 5 Posted January 2, 2020 Just did the nutrition class this month. We were told we could drink up until a minute or two before we take a bite but that we had to wait for 30 mins after. This is a new policy for the clinic but they have found that liquid slides right through so its not going to effect digestion. It is eating during and to soon after that our nurse was very concerned with. 1 Slownstedy reacted to this

It’s hard when there are so many varied plans , and you read all different do’s and don’ts , and what is and isn’t ok. I would rather err on the side of caution , although I did have a terrific thirst all the time and found it really hard not to drink for 30 mins either side of a meal. My meals used to get later and later because I just couldn’t wait to drink . I used to suck ice cubes , and bought a box of over 200 sugar free popsicles - then it went I’ve used about 10 of the popsicles ! DeadSpaceGrave 53 Posted January 4, 2020 To give your body a opportunity to digest it better. When I have eaten and drank at the same time, my stomach can cause a dump . Where food enters your intestines too fast. And by drinking when you eat, Water or the liquid you consumed takes up alot of space where nutritious food could've been. So you'll lose nutrition that waySent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app 1 Slownstedy reacted to this
Johnny2Thumbs 29 Posted January 6, 2020 I've never been able to NOT drink while eating, although I limit it. Depending on what food I eat, my mouth gets incredibly dry and difficult to swallow unless I have some liquid to help. But as far as drinking before eating, my doctor said I can drink right up until eating and that it takes only a couple of minutes for that liquid to drain from my pouch. 2Bsmaller18 436 Posted January 7, 2020 This makes me wonder about losing the nutritional benefits of Soup in the long term. If I eat a vegetable soup I guess the food particles are probably passing through quicker. I also drink and don’t wait more than a few minutes to eat. I do wait 30 minutes after eating to drink. It got much easier after the first 6 months to drink more quickly so first thing in the morning I try to drink 10-12 ounces just to get fluids in. Same thing at night
Losingit2018 1,170 Posted January 7, 2020 If I forget and drink too close to eating, I get very very sick. It has only happened a few times. I was researching caffeine after surgery and read this in one of the health articles. Caffeine causes dehydration and acts as an appetite stimulant. Carbonation can cause increased bloating and discomfort, especially after gastric bypass surgery. Drinking too soon before or after a meal will cause fullness and may lead to dumping syndrome. momof3_angels 465 Posted January 8, 2020 I dont follow the before rule... although I am careful to drink less or I am too full for food. But afterwards I will only take a sip if I need it (too dry)... otherwise I wait the full 30.Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
