Recommended Posts

My RNY is 8/19/19 and this week I’m doing 1 meal & two shakes a day. 2 days before surgery... full liquids

Pre-op diet programs vary all over the map from many months (!) of liquids to nothing special at all; some will vary depending upon procedure or patient's BMI. Your doc only requiring for the VSG may indicate that he is quite comfortable doing the RNY, but less so doing the VSG. More typical is something on the order of what Chiptress is doing - a low calorie meal or two (lean meat and veg, or low cal frozen dinner) and a Protein Shake or two; the all liquid seems to be less common, but we hear a lot more about them because they are so objectionable.

I had to do it. I'm RNY. Total liquids. No food.

My surgery is in October and I have 6 months of monitoring first. I haven’t really lost any weight. Am I suppose to lose weight before surgery?

Yep. I have a 2 week pre-op diet and I’m RYN. 1st week is 2 Protein Shakes, 2 Snacks and a “lean and green” dinner, (3-4 ounces lean Protein and a cup or two of non-starch veg and of course Water. 2nd week is 5 protein shakes, plus the 64oz water.

Very lucky to have that much food.. I've been told 3-4 shakes a day no food preop as that will get you prepared for the first few weeks post op of liquids only..

I keep hearing everyone talk about a 2 week pre-op liquid diet. I was told by my Dr that is only for sleeve patients. Is anyone else scheduled for R&Y on or around Aug 29, and not on a liquid diet ?

I had a pre op liquid diet for my sleeve and my surgeon said it was to shrink my liver for the surgery because they did it laparoscopically.

Idk if that helps at all lol

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
