Eating While On 2 week Liquid Diet

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm scheduled for surgery on Monday, just wondering has anyone messed up on their 2 week liquid diet? . I came home to prepair for surgery and now I want blue crabs. I know my doctor told me I can have a Protein and veggie in place of dinner Protein Shake but are the blue crabs acceptable to eat with surgery on a few days away?..

I was supposed to have surgery Monday 8/12/19 also but mines being pushed back 1 week due to thyroid levels. I’m a little relieved because I haven’t been great on my pre-op diet. My drs require for my 1 meal low carb , low fat & high Protein & veggie . Crabs are protein just don’t add fats like butter etc to them.

crabs have some carbs in them I think. Go look them up on MFP. Don't over eat. It's not an "all you can eat" thing cuz that can also be bad on your liver. But I'd think that a small 3-4oz serving of picked crab + a low carb salad or veg would be ok.

I wasn't allowed to have any food at all (just zero (or nearly zero) calorie fluids, 4-5 Protein Shakes, a limited amount of broth and Tomato juice/V8, sugar free popsicles, and sugar free Jello. So....consider yourself lucky your surgeon allows a little food! I would think crab would be OK, but check if you're not sure.

Yeah, me either. But I was glad about that, cuz it made the post op period SO much easier! Cuz I was already adapted to only Protein Drinks and went through any carb withdrawal, or caffeine withdrawal BEFORE I also had to recover from the surgery!

It's fascinating how many variations there are of the "pre-op" diet :) And I agree, everyone should follow exactly what THEIR doctor tells them... my doc is on the "two weeks, 3-5 Protein Shakes and Clear Liquids ONLY" team...the nutritionist told us if there was ANY food in our stomach or intestines they would cancel the surgery because it isn't safe...that's kind of kept me on the straight and narrow these first few days when I'm SO hungry!!

Try to stick to the pre-op diet because you're going to be eating on a "diet" for the rest of your life and have to get used to a new way of thinking and eating.

Since you’ve been told you can have Protein and veggies for your dinner, looks like crab could be a good option if you stick to a small amount as others mentioned 💜 I was told I could have 3-4oz of a lean protein like chicken or fish. Phoning your doctor and checking with them might be best though

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
