8 days Post - Gas pain after swallows?

Recommended Posts

Forgive me if this has been answered 100 times. I looked through a few months of posts but didn't see it.

I had VS surgery on 7/31 and everything went smoothly. I've been able to get in all my walks, my incisions are good and generally I feel comfortable. I am a tad constipated but things ARE moving. I am on Prilosec and tylenol.

My issue is that I seem to be experiencing a sort of "call and response" pain in my stomach after each sip or swallow of water/protein drink/yogurt. It gets worse later in the day and makes the chore of getting enough liquid much more tedious.

I think it might be a gas pain, though it manifests like sort of a strong hunger pang. Sometimes there's a burp, but many times not.

My question is, is this par for the course? And if so, will it pass and when?

Thanks for any insight you might have!

Could be. If it's strong enough to be concerning, you might want to phone the surgeon's office to ask. I had gas pains for what felt like forever, but it was probably more like 2 weeks. Felt kind of like hunger but painful.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
