Feels like food stuck in my throat

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on 7/15 and am at a soft food stage but have mainly been sticking to liquids. The last three days it feels like there are little pieces of food that are in my throat. It doesn’t matter if I drink, swallow, brush my teeth, gargle it won’t go away. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions to get rid of it. It’s driving me nuts.

Hi! I would suggest drinking only warm liquids for a while to break it down or hard coughing to dislodge it.

If it remains go back a step on your food progression (you may not be physically ready for the food you ate) and contact your team for more instructions.

Good Luck 💜

Go back to liquids only (maybe even Clear Liquids and clear protein) until that feeling goes away. You probably irritated it with whatever you advanced your diet to and now have referred pain from lower down in your esophagus and tummy. But you feel it in your throat. Are you taking a PPI or acid reducer for GERD?

If you can't eat or drink or keep anything down, then call your doc immediately. You can try taking liquid Tylenol (sugar free).

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
