mjlopez913 17 Posted August 6, 2019 Ok everyone I am worried. I have only lost a total of 15lbs in 4 weeks is that even normal? I do a lot of walking and my Protein intake has been 60gm per day. But I lost 4 pant sizes. My doctor says yo slow down on the protein. Sent from my SM-J327T1 using BariatricPal mobile app
AZhiker 2,253 Posted August 7, 2019 15 pounds in 4 weeks is awesome! That's almost 4 pounds per week. Why are you worried? 2 FluffyChix and alex76 reacted to this
catwoman7 11,221 Posted August 7, 2019 I lost 16 lbs the first four weeks. And I've lost 100% of my excess weight (over 200 lbs) I think a lot of people's perceptions of weight loss surgery is based on shows like "My 600 lb Life". Don't forget those people start out with MUCH higher BMI's than the average weight loss patient, so of course they're going to lose a lot faster - at least at first. Other factors that can influence rate of the weight loss are age, gender, metabolism rate, whether or not you lost a weight pre-surgery - I'm sure I'm leaving some out. But the lesson I learned was NOT to compare myself to others. Most of these things you have no control over. The only thing you DO have control over is whether or not you stick to your program, and to be honest, that's going to have a MUCH greater effect on your eventual success than your rate of weight loss will. If you stick to your program, the weight WILL come off, whether fast or slow. 3 Aprilgal, Lynda486 and FluffyChix reacted to this
catwoman7 11,221 Posted August 7, 2019 btw - 60 grams of Protein is a pretty standard requirement for bariatric patients. 1 FluffyChix reacted to this

So you are on the upper edge of normal. Congrats! Keep doing what you're doing. Aim for between 60-80g of protein per day. You need some days of higher protein here and there especially in the early days of healing.

Sent from my SM-J327T1 using BariatricPal mobile app I felt the same way you did. I lost 16 pounds my first month and was freaking out because some people drop like 30 pounds in the first few weeks. Needless to say, I am at 16 weeks out and have lost 75 pounds. It's a cumulative thing when it comes to weight loss and surgery. Some people lose fast, some slow, some lose steadily. You are doing amazing. 1 FluffyChix reacted to this
johnedwin 80 Posted August 8, 2019 well obviously the more overweight you are the more weight you will lose at first..so a 350 pound person will lose more weight then a 250 pound person..doing the exact same diet..

ccs124 6 Posted August 13, 2019 I’m about to start week 6. I’ve lost 20 lbs. It is hard not to be discouraged. Some of the same feelings I had before surgery are coming back. Wanting to eat for comfort and the craving of the carbs is getting worse. Trying not to giving in, but did eat some chocolate ice cream. This was not a good idea now I just want more. Getting in 48oz of fluids is something I work at daily. Otherwise I feel good exercising 3 times a week for an hour.
