forgetting what food tastes like

Recommended Posts

Do you think that some day you may forget what a certain food tastes like? lol. I am in a group on Facebook where everyone posts meals/foods and people roast them or say that it looks flavortown. Someone asked if Condiments on mac n cheese is good, and I obviously said no because NO. But will I someday forget the deliciousness of mac n cheese? Or the taste of a 7 layer burrito? Or a real fudgy brownie? lol. Will some day I not be able to participate in this group because I truly cannot recall what a piece of cake tastes like? lmao.

I'm a weirdo because I never really liked food to begin with. I got fat due to Cookies and sweets. If I never had pizza or mac and cheese or Pasta or any food ever again, I wouldn't miss it.

I think I will remember what food tastes like because it is already happening now that I am in the pureed phase. I thnk it's about healthier versions of certain food. Now, I know certain foods are just absolutely NOT good for you no matter how you make it. I wasn't a sweet eater, so I LOVED food, food!

food still tastes the same to me but only slightly too sweet or salty because it usually is (if i didnt make it myself). That's enough to make me not enjoy it.

The only Condiments i have used since surgery are maple Syrup, Tomato sauce, mayo, mustard and liquid aminos (almost always in recipes)

Well, I hope I don't forget what a food tastes like cuz:

1. I like food. It's more than just fuel to me, it is pleasure and part of life. I just want to put it in its proper place.

2. If I forget how great mac n' cheese feels/tastes on my tongue, I might be more tempted to try it again to see if it's better than I forgot it was. :)

****

But mostly, I like not thinking about food or dreaming up recipes/scenarios built around all-consuming eating. :) And I'm glad I'm disgusted by huge quantities of eating.

Whenever I go out to eat and see the "average" portions of meals offered or just watch people eat I am like ........................................... gross, man. LOL. But then remember I would eat like 3 times that somehow.

I kinda' do hope that in 5 or 10 years I forget what Taco Bell tastes like. Because that still haunts me sometimes. lmao. I asked my coworker who has been vegan for over 20 years if she remembers what meat tastes like and she says she does. Maybe it's not as vivid and pronounced.

I was the opposite. Never liked sweets too much (rare occasion), but Pasta, mashed potatoes, fast food... bring it on. I loved all food, basically. Even healthy foods - but I would just eat an extreme amount of it.

I went to Cracker Barrel this past weekend and they brought 7 biscuits out to the table and they have amazing biscuits. I watched the two other people I was with eat all 7 biscuits and I just stared at them. But I could totally imagine the flavor of them in my mouth and how good they taste... I kinda' wish I wouldn't remember those sorts of things.

I was fat due to sweets as well. I like gourmet type sweets and pastries. Today, I do not eat those things, but rarely. I decided to only eat them on special occasions. I decided only on my immediate families bd's.

I hosted a baby shower 2 weeks ago and didn't eat the cake I purchased.

If it becomes a problem again I may have to reevaluate eating it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
