Pain and burning in 1 of lower incisions

Recommended Posts

I'm on Day 13 Post-Op and last night woke up in the middle of the night due to pain and a burning sensation on my lowest right side incision (one of the 2 big incisions).

I was lying on my back so it wasn't like I was on my side and maybe pulled it. The pain continued for about 4 hrs. I took a Tramadol which usually does nothing for me. Had slight relief but I can feel it starting to hurt again. It is NOT major horrible pain.

Is it just..healing??

One sidenote: When I was in my hospital bed after surgery, I suddenly needed to use the restroom and frantically looked around for the remote to raise the head of the bed and this ONE BED did NOT come with a remote for the patient to control. I paged nurse out of desperation but they were tied up. The bed also didn't have rails/pull ups reachable for me. I ended up having to use all my abdominal muscles (or lack thereof) to get to an almost sitting position where I could grab the small tiny rails that were located near my knees. It HURT!!

I pointed out to nurse when she finally came and she was astonished that this '1' bed on whole floor was without a control. I had to, within the next 14 hrs, get up this way many times and it made everything BURN.

No idea if they are connected but I hadn't had the similar burning and pain sensation until 4 AM this morning

Yeah, I don't think they are supposed to burn and my nurse yesterday said to watch it even though I am on day 16 and most of them are healed.

Have you had your post-op appointment yet? I'd have your surgeon look at that spot then.

Yeah, my first post-op is this Thursday. Man that incision is just being....difficult. It was burning so much earlier it felt like someone has a match up against my skin.

Maybe unhappy nerve endings?? Just throwing out anything that comes to mind....

My larger incision that is sore is also on my lower right side. It doesn't burn but it aches. It is the only one that is really sore. I have to wear really loose pants because it's so sore. I thought for sure the incision with the drain tube would be my worst incision. It's super red because the nurse had trouble gluing it closed. It doesn't hurt at all.my follow up is also Thursday. Hope it's nothing serious.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
