New food intolerances after revision?

Recommended Posts

Just curious- for those of you who had revision from VSG to RNY, are there any foods you ate all the time with the sleeve that you can no longer tolerate after your revision to RNY (or vice versa)?
I’m still on full liquids, but I really had no problems with any foods (except kale) after the sleeve. I go back to work when I’m on puréed and afraid of eating something that will make me sick at work.

Oh no! please dont hurt me Kale 😭 I would be devastated

I'm newly revised as well and I had a few shaky moments over the past week with foods i was fine with prior.

I cannot have cream based Soups anymore. It makes me too quesy. Luckily i dont need them. I know think any super fatty food that isn't a nut may bother me. Also the smell of foods are heightened as well. Otherwise ive been taking it *somewhat* slowly and eating the foods im used to. I'm curious about vegetables/leafy greens as those are my loves.

I still have 1 week until I go to puree stage, but I will be traveling for work for 2 weeks while on soft foods 1 week & transition to regular diet the last week. I hate the thought of experimenting with foods from a hotel room or restaurant.

I find that I can't have the Protein Bars or shakes that I relied on before and after VSG. Now, they are too sweet and (sorry, TMI) I almost immediately get the shakes (dumping) and will probably have to run to the bathroom. And really, that's what's changed the most after my revision to RNY - I haven't had more than maybe 5 normal BMs in 19 months.

Today was my first day of puréed food. I was at work & decided to heat up scrambled eggs. Bad move!! I think by re- heating them in the microwave they became firmer. I took 3 bites and it felt like there was a fist in my chest. They wouldn’t go down & wouldn’t come up. It took about a half hour for the pain to go away and for me to stop spitting (gross!). Not the experiences out want to have at work!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
