As the 21st gets closer, I’m getting more nervous about having surgery. I think the main thing I am afraid of is being put to sleep. This will be my first surgery. How did you guys get over the fear of having surgery? Did they give you anything before surgery to relax you?

I was very nervous my first time too. But the meds they give you before surgery made me delirious and loopy. I was ready for a nap 😍

Good Luck 💜

From the time I got my clothes off and put to sleep was at best 15 minutes and in less than 45 minutes I was in recovery. Tell your doctor you are fearful and they can make you loopy faster.

VSG was my first surgery also. After they took my blood and vitals an hour before surgery they gave me calming medication and from there i was ready! Its an amazing experience and it all happened so quick. Good luck!

I sure will tell them if I’m still feeling this way! Thank you

they'll probably give you Versed first. It's twilight sedation, but it always knocks me out cold (well either that, or I don't remember a thing). If they don't offer anything, you can ask. But they probably give it everyone as a routine.

being scared of surgery is very common - esp if it's your first one. But like the above person said, you'll be in the pre-op room - and the next thing you know, you'll be in the recovery room. It seems like only a few seconds have gone by!

I don’t think anyone is thrilled to be knocked out & have major surgery. The way that I handle it is knowing that I choose this team . I trust these doctors so I try & trust the process.

I trust them. I just don’t like being in control (while falling asleep lol)

I (unfortunately) had a lotttt of surgeries before this one. They did tell me I could take one of my valium if I wanted that morning if I needed to calm down, but I didn't. They may give you something if you feel like you really need it. But it's peaceful... you just close your eyes (or see how long you can fight it, like me, LOL) and within 5 seconds you are in a dreamless sleep. Then poof, you wake up and it's all over.

The feeling is so normal. It was my first surgery too and I think I have waited so long due to the same fears. They did give meds. I remember being hauled and a bit scared. But they were so sweet, made jokes and the meds just calmed me down. It wasn't bad at all. I wish I had gotten it done sooner. Best of luck and hopefully all will go well.

I guess I was just making myself think it is worse than it actually is.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
