Am I just a giant baby?

This full liquid diet is horrible. I just feel hungry all the time. Today is day 5 and I went to Target and all of the sudden got flushed and sweat and dizzy and thought I was gonna faint. I just had a Protein Shake and broth and Powerade and I’m still hungry.

The nutritionist told me you lose your appetite after 4 days but that hasn’t happened to me.

I feel like I’m losing my mind.

Did the Powerade have sugar? What happened at Target sounds awful! I'm sorry. [emoji31] It does get better once you can eat yogurt and things of that thickness. Try and distract yourself, I guess, and hang in there!

Ah! I thought you were Post-op! Yes, the pre-op diet was really tough! I wasn't totally on liquids though. I had a Protein Shake for Breakfast and lunch, then something like steamed broccoli and chicken for dinner.

At least the pre-op diet is short, but oh so necessary, so please continue to follow it to the letter and good luck on your WLS.

For myself, that pre-op liquid diet was really the worst part of my whole journey so far. It sucks, but it does pass.

Stick with it and hang in there! You got this. :)

Thanks!! My dietician did say that most people consider it to be the hardest part of the whole thing as well. So good to know I’m not a complete baby.

Pre-Op I only had a day of liquid. Post op I had two weeks of Protein Shakes & Soup and I was nearly out of my mind. It's SO MUCH better on real food. I was hungry that first two weeks. Hungry & annoyed. Once real food was added, the hunger is sooooo much easier to control.

The pre-op is by far the worst. But take comfort from knowing you are doing a big part of your carb withdrawal now rather than after your operation! Score!! Try adding a cup of full sodium bouillon to your day if you are feeling extra hungry or faint/headachy/flu-ish. It passes quickly. The 2nd week I think is easier physically, but a lot of us have insulin reactions to the Protein Drinks. Hang in there. You can do it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
