I'm 51 years old & started menopause after my birth control "essure" was removed at the age of 47. I sleep with the air conditioning on all seasons, I carry a fan around with me everywhere (restaurants, parties, movies, work, etc.). Night sweats and major hot flashes. Has anyone's body changed after VSG (menopause symptoms went away, got worse or stayed the same)? Trying to prepare myself - surgery date August 27th!

I went through menopause already and the night sweats and hot flashes were the only symptom I had BUT they were horrible and embarrassing. The one thing that I found that finally made them go away was Estroven. My sister just started getting them too and it has also helped her. It takes about two months to fully kick in. I'm still waiting to lose enough weight to be cold all the time though. I can't wait til that happens!

Thank you so much justmetj! When did you start taking them, before or after VSG?

Before VSG. I started going through menopause at 42. I'll be 50 in November.

I was already post-menopausal when I had surgery, but a lot of people are cold all the time after surgery. Even before they've lost much weight.

I was already in menopause before VSG and it hasn't changed anything. I don't have any symptoms. Well, actually I used to get some night sweats and come to think of it I haven't had any in about six months since surgery. Huh.

Wow, Ok. So some of my symptoms "maybe" will change! Thank you all so much for your input!

Estroven Double Strength was my life saver through menopause. The hot flashes and night sweats woke me up 10-20 times each night. I thought I would kill my whole family before I jumped off the bridge myself! costco is where I got it and used it twice a day for a while, then just in the evening.

That's exactly how mine were! I had serious doubts about the Estroven even working for me they were so bad, but it did 😊

Thank you for asking that question. I had a complete hysterectomy in 2010 at 38 years old. I am always hot. I keep my house at 65° all year round and also have a fan blowing directly on me at night. It seems by the responses that this has righted itself with some people who had the surgery. My family will be so happy to not live in an ice box.

I don’t have menopause yet but I sweat because of a medication I am on and post surgery I was hoping to be cold all the time but I still sweat ALOT. I don’t think it always helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
