Slow down with weight loss

Recommended Posts

I had my first stall at 3 weeks. Very normal. Try not to weigh every day. It'll frustrate you and so long as you stick to the plan you will drop the weight

Nothing is wrong, I stalled at three weeks as well and was also having a hard time with my Water intake. I add sugar free/calorie free ice tea drops to my water which helps a lot and I’m exercising more. After a few days you will start dropping again, I promise :)

I've seen a full video by Dr. V indicating that exercising before you are able to fully get in your proper nutrients will hinder you from losing weight. I intend to wait 4-6 months before working out - until my body can burn & take in enough calories. The first year is your honeymoon period - don't put more stress on yourself. Good luck!

I respectfully disagree with Dr. V. Other bariatric surgeons will say quite the opposite. I think exercise needs to be part of the total package from the very beginning. That can take the form of walking, light weights, climbing stairs, yoga, bicycling...….. I think more studies show that people who do NOT exercise and build that into their lifestyle have slower weight loss, will not lose as much total weight, and will have a harder time maintaining.

Walking, climbing stairs, and non-energy depleting workouts are totally different from doing a full blown 45 minute calorie burning workout. What are you burning when you are barely eating? The concept is really common sense - do simple exercises starting out and work yourself up to jogging, weight lifting, cycling when you have enough calories to burn off.

Hey hon I this video Dr V is talking about going to the gym and doing power workouts and hard core classes. He totally wants us to walk daily in the beginning.

I had surgery 7/23 and I had an appointment with my doc yesterday and he's insistent on doing light exercises. Walking as much as possible, (i do 10000 steps a day), low bikes and the stairmaster NO weights at this time till after 4 - 6 weeks post op.

I did not realize you were talking about full blown, knock-your-socks-off work outs. I agree that Iron man/woman workouts can wait until later. Many bariatric patients would not be able to do those kind of work outs until some substantial weight comes off, anyway. But building in some reasonable cardio and strengthening exercises should start from the beginning, IMHO.

My first stall came 3 weeks in as well, just hang in there and stay the course. Things will pick up... Hope this helps...

My doctor said to start walking after a week, slowly at first, no gym until my visit with him at 6 weeks then to start out slowly. In fact, he said I could go into the pool at a month and kayak at 6 weeks. Moving and walking is different than going to the gym to "work out".

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
