Hey Everyone! I am about 7 weeks out and I am just curious how much everyone is/was eating around that time. My nutritionist had a goal of 1/2 cup for me at the 6 week mark, and I am totally full at 2.5-3 ounces. That is even eating slowly over 30-40 minutes. I really have no desire to eat, but I do make sure to get my minimum recommended Protein (60g) a day. Most days I am disciplined enough to get over 75 grams. When will I be interested in eating again!?!?!

Looking at my food diary, at 7 weeks I was consuming about 500 cal/day. Only 2 oz of Protein at a time, however. 1/4 c Beans. 1/4 c cottage cheese. 1/4 c cooked mushy veg. So it looks like 1/4 c was my volume limit, and only 2 oz of chicken, meat, or fish. My smoothies, however, were larger volume, but sipped over time.

You may not be interested in eating for a while. This a blessing! Use this time to reframe your thinking about food, build new tastes, develop new habits like exercise and food journaling. The first 6 months are golden. Probably also the next 6 months, as well, but you want to maximize the weight loss opportunity you have right now. Your appetite will eventually return and your restriction will be much less. That's why you gotta build all the healthy habits now so you will be prepared when that time comes.

As far as volume, you have to listen to your own body. Your nutritionist can give guidelines, but she doesn't have your sleeve. Learning to stop eating when you are full (or several bites before you are full) is a skill that must be learned and one that will benefit you for life. LIsten to YOUR body. Volume will come later. You are making great progress. Let it play out the way your body wants to do it.

take full advantage of not being interested in food, because hunger eventually comes back for the vast majority of us, and once it does, this will all become a LOT harder. Now should be the easiest time in your life to stick to a program and lose weight - so rejoice in it and milk it for all it's worth!!!

I doubt I was getting in 1/2 cup of food at that time. It was more like 1/4 cup. I'm a year out now and not quite able to get in a full cup. (Unless its a slider food of course)

Follow the plan but don't force it. If you aren't to 1/2c. Thank GOD and move on. Don't eat if you aren't hungry. Get your Protein minimum in each day and make sure to hydrate. As the others have said, use this time to your advantage. Get the most weight off that you can during this time!!!

Even after 13 months, my appetite varies a great deal. Sometimes I've had enough after 4 bites, sometimes I can eat 8 bites: it depends on what I'm eating. I just eat slowly and stop before I feel full. If my appetite is small, I find that I need to eat more often in the day - it seems to even itself out. It sounds a bit vague, but it seems to be working so far.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
