💜AUGUST 2019 CHALLENGE💜

Recommended Posts

I am so much a morning owl. Once I'm up I can't just roll over and go back to sleep, its like I feel every ache and pain in my back and legs and got to get up and start moving.

Ok, Happy Saturday to all!!! ((hugs)) Busy day today. Just finished a 35 minute "run" or ralk if you prefer (3mph). LOL. ;) Am having a quick cuppa then off to get ready to go HEBing and run errands. Then back to clean house, have a repair dude coming to fix our shower and bath plumbing. Ugh. Hate having workmen in the house!

Read a book: I got this book as a gift from a friend, long ago. And I pulled it out last night and am actually starting to read some of it. :)

Staying in tonight with Mr. F. and finishing binge-watching the "Dead To Me" series with Christina Applegate. :) So so so good! Will grill salmon and asparagus and have our fav avo/tom salad. :)

Have a great day everyone!!

Road trip today. I’ll still go for a walk after we check into our hotel. We should get there early evening depending on border traffic. The place we are staying tonight is right on Lake Huron so it looks like a great place to go for a walk.

Went for a hike this morning and got to the top of the hill where the flag is......as u can imagine, I rarely do so.
Also got a picture of the sun rising.

Went to spin class afterwards for my cardio Tabata!! Phew

B side: My husband, brother and sister in law and I went on an adults only vacay in Turks and Caicos earlier this year in February. It was such a fantastically beautiful time. It was not a busy time and we just RELAXED in the resort and had all our needs catered to. I miss it and THAT feeling.

Good news, I dropped a little weight this morning, so I'm not so close to my upper 130 lb limit 😅

Because of this challenge I walked to my dry cleaners this morning. I would normally just drive since I'm going to be out and about running errands anyway. So I'm halfway to my mile goal today.

Work has been crazy, so I'd love to be back in Barbados, laying on the beach, under an umbrella, being brought rum drinks in coconuts 😍 (doesn't hurt that the drink vendors are gorgeous either!)

Made it to Canada, super easy trip. Walked 2 miles after dinner. Granted we walked to Tim Hortons but I only got a Decaf coffee!

B side. Anyplace I’m missing.. My hometown Madison, WI. I love that place.

Pretending it is Saturday - walked in the park close to my house. Longest walk since surgury in June. Still under MD not to sweat and no exercise. It ‘twas slow. Missing New England cooler weather and hikes. Fun fact: all DC residents are 10 minute walk from a park. Lucky my close park is big and green!!!

Good morning everyone!

Dropped a little weight again this morning. Back to my normal maintaining weight, so feeling better about that. But drank a ton of calories last night, so might get an upward bounce in a couple of days as a consequence, we'll see.

Today's challenge, take a bubble bath. I might get in my hot tub as a substitution, or might not, it's pretty freaking warm here!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
