My Gall Bladder hath failed me

Recommended Posts

Looks like I'm going to have to have it removed. has anybody else had this issue post op? is it common? I started throwing up out of nowhere last week. and I have NOT thrown up at all since my sleeve surgery in December.

what was your down time like? recovery? time off work?

the timing could not be worse! I am supposed to start a new position on August 15th. I may now miss out on this opportunity. UGH

Oh, that stinks.

I had my gallbladder removed a few years ago, after I’d lost a bunch of weight (which of course I regained :( ). It is a common issue after weight loss.

Recovery time was about the same as my sleeve surgery, but without the hydration/eating issues. So somewhere between a week to two off from work.

You may be just fine after surgery. I've seen people get their Gallbladder removed and look/act like nothing happened... Just a little pain. They all did feel much better after surgery.

I'm preop, but had mine removed already in anticipation. Mine was really bad, although I had only had 2 painful issues with it. For me, it was quick and easy. I had it removed on Thursday and back up and out on Friday. I experienced no real pain, only used Tylenol about 2 times. However, that's my experience.

@Avery's Mom -

From my understanding, a lot of people get them out during the weight loss surgery. I read somewhere, generally at the 18th month, if it is going to go bad, it will happen within that window. For me, it took a bit longer. I had an attack last April 2018 and ended up in the ER. My HIDA scan showed there was nothing wrong with my gall bladder and that, was that. Come September 2018, another full out attack and this time, it was with inflammation AND stones. Two weeks later, it was out. Now, I will say, if you're having the surgery w/in the or next week, depending on the type of job you have, you should be just fine. I was off for two weeks, but possibly could have done light duty the second week. I'm in healthcare and am very busy and active so I chose to take a full two weeks off, w/ one follow up after returning to work.
