Sounds normal to me. Agree. They will adjust. It sounds like support and validation will have to come from another source. Hugs- it is lousy when our people do not cheer efforts for health.

I absolutely agree with @ms.sss - this is about how much exercise is generally recommended to be healthy. So I say, keep on keepin' on! Good for you for embracing exercise, and mixing in a variety of formats.

Sounds pretty darn good to me! It’s daily but not all day . How is that a problem? Usually when someone makes a comment to me about something I’m either doing or not doing I weigh what they’ve said & see if it applies. You know yourself best. You know if it’s truly a problem or not!

Did you really want someone to remind you or point out to you that you were fat? I doubt it. It's a taboo subject so I can see why they wouldn't. It's not insulting to talk about how much you exercise so they feel more able to comment I think.

personally I'd be grateful that they didn't make comments about me getting fat. Trust me, I already knew it.

My husband used to make those comments and it was hurtful.

You could be snarky and say 'shame you weren't this concerned when I WAS actually killing myself!' or smile graciously and say 'great addiction to have huh' ;)

This. People who care about you don't want to insult you or make you feel even worse about yourself by pointing out your eating habits or your weight or your sedentary lifestyle (if you have one).

"You're exercising too much" is like saying "You're working too much". Neither is usually an insult in our culture.

Side rant and hopefully not a hijack: What makes me mad is that people seem to be "concerned and wanting to help" once you get below a certain weight as it seems. "Do you have any eating problems? Are you sick?" - Well, what-da-f*ck, usually nobody asks if one has "eating problems" when a person is fat. 🤬

This. Weight is a very emotional topic. "Fat" is usually used as an insult and not as an attribute.

If it's any consolation, it seems to get better as time goes by. Either everyone gets used to it (and stops making comments) or you do (and the comments are only a minor, minor annoyance or even better, don't even bother you at all).

The number of comments I get to my face (and behind my back through comments made to Mr. or the Kid) have greatly reduced. I still get the odd one here or there, but for the most part, the shock of my weight loss has basically worn off.

Okay so first, I don’t think you’re overdoing it. At. All.

Second, people who love us can love us in some really dysfunctional and weird ways. No idea why you’re getting this criticism now, but promise us you will do your best to shrug it off and keep doing you.

By the way, congrats on being able to exercise this much now! You fought long and hard for that and you’ve EARNED that right. Don’t let anyone (no matter how well-intentioned) steal your thunder.

Earlier this month I broke a couple of toes. Then because of walking duck-footed, threw my lower back out.

I’m just now after 3 looooooooooong weeks getting back into some kind of workouts and I missed it so freaking bad when it genuinely wasn’t a good idea to go to the Pilates studio and try to do a cardio jump class with broken toes.

Today I’ve been in an amazing mood because my body feels better and I’ve got back-to-back classes booked! That’s TWO....... count ‘em, TWO hours of exercise planned for tonite and I’m not one bit sorry about it.

Lol, earlier today a friend of mine who lives out of town asked me how I was doing.
I sent her a selfie and her response was “you’re too skinny, I’m mailing you some brownies”.

The funny part is she actually might be serious. 🤔

Your exercise schedule looks totally normal/reasonable.

I was asked by a well-meaning friend yesterday if my caloric intake was appropriate for my activity level, or if I’m overdoing it. All I had to say was “my nutritional intake and my activity level are both approved by my surgeon, who is quite happy with my progress”. That shut down the conversation and left no hurt feelings.

Yes!

I tell people “for the first time in a VERY long time my body is finally doing what it should have been doing all along —what everyone else with a normal metabolisms body does— by mobilizing stored fat for fuel. As long as I get in adequate Protein and take my supplements (which I do) I could do this until every single ounce of excess fat is gone and be completely healthy”.

People really don’t know how to respond to that.
For people who’ve never had insulin resistance and/or metabolic syndrome, it’s a complete novel thought that your body would not use stored fat.
I guess that’s where the myth that fat people always eat and never work out myth came from.

10 years ago when I was 270 pounds, I started running. I lost some weight along the way (got all the way down into the 230’s and it took me 8 months hard diet and exercise) I was running 3-5 miles 3-4 times weekly and everyone kept telling me “good job”. I finally had to stop because of some back and foot injuries probably not helped by 75 pounds excess weight.

It’s so aggravating that there are 2 standards: if you’re still overweight, you’re encouraged to exercise more. Lose down close to goal and everyone wants to be a critic.

Bravo for turning your passion for nutrition and fitness into a career. People that never had surgery build up their fitness level, become athletes, trainers, and it’s not an issue.

Your workout sounds normal to me. Over doing it does not sound like your situation. You have been working with your trainer and know what you’re doing, Mixing up cardio, muscle groups, two rest days. You are injury free.

Why do bariatric patients get judged if they decide to get fit or into sports???

Exercising too much would be - repeat injuries, malnourished, mentally unstable, no rest days, working out while ill or injured., not making time for other areas in your life.

It makes kind of sense for many people though. Same with encouraging people "to eat less". Fat people are encouraged "to eat less". Nobody encourages thin people "to eat less". And why should they?

I exercise everyday.....for me I think maybe I traded one for the other...you know. When I was stressed...I ate. Sad? I ate...bored? I ate. Now my daily workout takes the spot of that!

I now feel like exercise is my only time for me...to decompress and think.

For others to see this routine is just probably strange for them...it will take time. Dont let it bother you- this is for you..no one else.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
