Im also 5 days post op and love spicy food. I put pepper in my broth to give it a bit of taste, maybe the reason why i constantly have diarrhea! Lol

Lol I made a delicious salsa for my husband it was well blended and I couldn't stop tasting it. It didn't hurt my tummy or anything. I just dont want it to be "bad" for me or something this early on

My doctor yelled at me at my one month post op visit because I told him I put a little bit of hot sauce on my Soup to make it less boring. He told me it could cause ulcers and to wait until I was 3 months post op.

Maybe give it a week or two. Your stomach is still going through a natural inflammation process and it's best to stick to mild foods for now.

I had an Iron pouch. But it still took weeks/months for me to heal to the point that spicy food was comfy again. Go slow. Cool your jets and fears. Embrace this time where you're on liquids and later have no interest in food. It is when you will LOSE THE MOST WEIGHT YOU WILL EVER BE ABLE TO LOSE IN YOUR LIFE. Isn't this surgery and everything you've been through leading up to it worth it to you?

Jeeze break up with the food ties that bind right now. *le sigh* (I seem to have woken on the wrong side of the newbie bed this morning.)

This morning there are no less than 4 whiny posts about totally normal progressions in this surgery. Did everyone think this was easy, no pain, no concessions re: food/eating? Seriously? We had big time billy badass surgerys cuz we were fuc*ing morbidly obese or super morbidly obese. In order to change our physical reality, there WILL be pain, there WILL be deprivation, there WILL be dying to our basic food instincts and short term cravings. There has to be in order to realize long term success. Now is the time to seize the day and embrace the suck cuz it will net you extraordinary advantages in the first 2 months if you work it baby. Work it like a street corner on a busy Saturday night! :D

Take at least a month before introducing anything too spicy into your diet. You're still healing on the inside.

Go slow on the spice, plus not having a drink while you eat could also be troublesome even if you have a high tolerance for spices. I love spice but still don't go crazy with it.

I had some "hot" wings in the Buffalo airport about 3 months out and thought I was going to die...

To @FluffyChix point, don't be in a hurry to get back to normal or you might mess yourself up. It's a marathon not a sprint.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
