Post sleeve weight gain

Recommended Posts

I’m about 2 1/2 years post sleeve and I did nothing but sat back and let the weight fall off. And I admit I’m a very lazy person but now I find that I can eat more so I’ve slowly started gaining weight. And as I’ve gradually gain 10lbs in 3 months as I’ve noticed I’ve been pushing my limits, but the good thing is I stop due to that I get really sick when I do which stops me but I have noticed that I can eat more now. My question is, is the damage done? Is my pouch already ruined?

Losing ten pounds is much easier than 60, 80 or 120 pound gain. With the sleeve you will have less restriction as you progress. Its not back to full size. If you are concerned, have stretching diagnosed by a surgeon.

I gained my third year and worked it back off. The only reason we gain is eating over our weight loss/maintaining calories. Go back to basics. Real food stage plan.(or find a new plan that’s sustainable) Log your food, stay within your calories hydrate and exercise. There are strategies that help with hunger and filling the extra space. If you are interested ..Ask.

If you are struggling with food issues/old behaviors counseling is an option

Here's Dr. Matthew Weiner's take on weight gain and stretching out your tool. It's a common issue. And newbies defend their position to the death: that "everything in moderation" is ok. Dr. Weiner calls it the myth of restriction and malabsorption. Love it!

This isn't magic bean surgery. They operate on our tummies not our heads. So we have to do everything we can to address the head issues that contributed to our disease while maximizing the advantage that WLS provides. It doesn't just "magically" end being a tool at the end of our honeymoon periods (anything equal to or <2 years). You still have your tool. But you have to exercise it.

I too highly recommend how healthy counseling is for us. Get a referral to your RD for post op loss care and also to a bariatric counselor. All of our surgeons wish that their patients come back to them when they are only at the 10lb regain stage rather than the 50 or 60 or 100lb regain stage.

10lbs in 3 months really needs to be quickly evaluated. It could be your choices, but it could also be hormonal of some nature and you need to have a complete work-up and evaluation. BTW, you should stick around here and get support and provide support. Your journey will help others just like you/us!!!!

Here's Dr. Weiner on the subject.

The good thing is you're aware of it and on top of it. Try a pouch reset diet and try to get back on the program of getting in 60 g of Protein each day, limiting carbs and fats, 64 oz of Water, and maybe get some walking in.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
