Freaking Doctors

Recommended Posts

Okay, I finally got all my medical records together. 4 states and 12 doctors - and not a damned one of them was consistant with putting my weight on there! I have weights entered for the following years: 1999, 2003 and 2006 - uuhhhh what about the other years?! Was I in some anti-gravity bubble in your office that made it so I had no weight?! I had a blood pressure and a height, but no freaking weight! And the kicker is, for most of these visits, I was going for WEIGHT RELATED ISSUES! And they wonder why its so hard to get approved! Insurance companies can't be blamed for this type of thing, but doctors' can certainly use my boot in their arses for this kind of crap.

Circa,

Send what you have, includiing the ones without the weight listed. Is there something else in the report than can help your cause. Did the doctor or nurse note obesity? Was your BP high? Were you short of breath?

I know one person who was unable to produce her medical records for several years with her PCP. He has swithced practices and they were not with him, but the previous practice claimed not to have them either. She submitted what she had, OB/GYN, etc. She also included photos. The PCP confirmed that he had been her PCP but that her medical records were missing and he confirmed that she had been obese for the time he had seen her and also that he had treated her during several weight loss efforts. She also wrote a letter explaining her battle with obesity and efforts she had made before deciding to consider surger. She was able to get approval.

Hang in there, it's not impossible, just requires more effort.

we've already contacted my insurance company - its a no-go without the documents. Basically, I have a blank chart with just dates - no notes, no weights, nothing. The nurse and PA at the doctor's office are going through check-ins and their memories to create some sort of record in the form of a letter to help

I'm sorry to hear that circa.

I agree with Ellisa just hang in there and make the most of it... have to tried to call the insurance to see what they recommend in this type of situation?

I have been requesting records from all the doctors I have seen the last 5 years which I know all have weight records because I cringed everytime I got weighed. And so far I have received just three out of 6 but it took persistance on two of those including a very detailed letter faxed to all 6 requesting copy of the records. Hardest part I have had to do...

have you had any emergency room visits in that period of time that might have recorded weight? or visits to any specialists that might have weighed you for any reason? even records from programs for weight loss might work.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
