Hiya, so has anyone been on anti depressants before your surgery? I have but my Surgeon said i shouldn't take it now that I'm post OP, that also goes for my hormones pills.

I know from my previous experience when I wasnt taking the antidepressants and my hormonal medication, i went down hill.

Are you still taking them or has your Surgeon stopped them?

Any advice please! Thank you!

I’m still taking mine. Maybe the type of antidepressant matters?

That doesn't sound like good advice from your surgeon. If you have Depression or Anxiety, WLS isn't going to change that and you'll still need your medication. Yes, I still take mine. I have to. And my psychiatrist explained that they'll still absorb just fine and be effective and aren't affected by the WLS.

Thats exactly how i feel, the WLS is not going to cure those things. I have just left a message for the doctor to call me back...

Ok, my Doc just came back and said i should resume the meds i was taking pre-OP and once we do my 6 month labs we'll know where i stand. That sounds better to me 😊😊

Okay glad your doctor told you to take them because my psychiatrist said most likely my meds will change very little due to surgery because most dosages are not based on weight.

I recommend working with your psychiatrist for the depression and leave the bariatric stuff to the surgeon. Adding to what others have said, if the depression is a true clinical depression it is a chemical imbalance which likely wouldn't be affected by weight loss. Now if the depression is more behavioral related weight loss could possible positively make a difference. Best wishes to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
