Carbonated Beverages

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. So, my nutritionist said I can have absolutely NO carbonation again in terms of drinks. She said it stretches the sleeve and should not have any carbonated beverages again. My understanding was that it was just for the first six months. What have your surgeons or nutritionists said about it? I am not talking soda, just other carbonated beverages!

Different surgeons have different opinions on this. Some allow, while others don’t

I was told never again. I can say that I had to take a carbonated drink-thing to have some gastro tests done a few months after surgery and even a little bit of it was super painful.

everyone is different. My program also says no carbonated stuff.. I say try a little, see how you do.

I cant imagine though the belching that would be involved. hard enough drinking non carbonated drinks and not burping all the time.,

wow, watched that video and it contradicted most of what my program said.😱

So funny how different things are depending on who you talk to.

It was explained to me that it's less about any type of pouch impact and more about your mindset. Carbonated beverages are usually high calorie sodas or beer. Neither are things you should really have when you're trying to lose or maintain your weight loss. And let's face it, diet sodas are no good for your body in general either.

I was told no carbonated beverage especially soda because the carbonation makes your stomach expand. How my nutritionist explained is your stomach is a balloon and you put helium (the carbonation) into the balloon. What does the balloon do? It expands

The answer is no you aren’t suppose to ever drink carbonated drinks. My surgeon also recommended no gum chewing or drinking with straws.

My surgeon didn’t really say not to but recommended not to just so I don’t get stomach discomfort or get trapped air

My surgeon said no carbonated beverages ever. I’m a year out and haven’t had any and I don’t plan to ever.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
