Hey everyone, I'm 6 months pre-op and I am just wondering how peoples experiences has been with Hair loss due to the rapid weight loss? I've heard of people having to wear wigs afterwards? I have PCOS so hair loss is already an issue :( Is there anything you can do to minimise it? I've stopped dyeing my hair to minimise unnecessary damage.

Google : Telogen Effluvium for more info on the type of hairloss WLS patients generally experience

Good Luck 💜

Hair loss to the point you have to wear wigs is pretty uncommon. Most people "shed" - some a little, some a lot - for many of us, it's really only noticeable to us, not to others.

I didn't lose much hair. I did notice extra strands in my comb when I combed it out after washing it, but had I just looked at my head, I would never have noticed. Some people shed to the point of getting some thin spots on their head, but again, often they're the only one who notices it.

I already had thin, fine hair due to thyroid issues anyway, but I haven't noticed any additional Hair loss since WLS. I'm taking Biotin gummies everyday, using Nexium Shampoo and conditioner, and using Minoxidil to prevent any further hair loss.

hair skin and nails gummies are very helpful, I like natures way with Biotin And collagen. Another beneficial supplement is hyaluronic acid. I would also highly recommend coq10 gummies. Plus garden of life makes the best Multivitamin gummies for women, they are Whole food based so you get more nutrition. It does cost a little more but you get more benefits. I also take hero nutritional slice of life omegas. My hair is already very fine like baby hair and thin. I’m not as far out from surgery yet though. But I can say we still need healthy fats for healthy hair and skin. I’d recommend a massaging scalp/ Shampoo brush I massage my scalp when I shampoo, healthy scalp = healthy hair. (I got it from bed bath and beyond)

Definitely dont panic just yet. I am on my 7th month and I have had a little shedding but no real Hair loss. I was losing hair previously due to menopause so I was really worried but not much has changed

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
