I'm 4 1/2 months past OP and my right hip and lower back hurt SO bad. I have arthritis but I thought losing wgt. would help but it seems it's made it worse and now I can only take tylenol. Has anyone heard of this happening?

I haven’t had exactly that happen but, I have significant tailbone pain now that I did not have pre op. Some days I am barely able to sit down.

I still have another 50 pounds left to lose so it isn’t that I am just bony now. I feel sure it has something to do with my surgery.

I will be following this thread.

I have chronic back pain and losing 72 pounds has not made any difference. I have 5 bulging discs that seem to not be getting any better. It sucks!

I hear you loud and clear. I had failed back surgery and am bone on bone at l3/l4 no improvement in pain levels for me either.

For a lot of us, this is just a phase that does improve as you get through the early stages of weight loss. I still get a sore bum/tailbone if I sit on a hard chair too long. But my hips and si joints are SOOOO much better!!! I had chronic bursitis and used to get cortisone shots for it. But haven't had to since I hit about 150lbs.

I'm wondering if it had to do with a shift in my wgt.

Yes. My RD and doc both said it's very common. It's cuz of the very abrupt shifts in our weight and the rapid losses. It does improve though!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
