Help me trouble shoot my morning latte

Recommended Posts

I have a Starbucks skinny cinnamon dolce latte on my way to work every morning. The nutrition info for it is 100 calories, 14g carbs, 9g Protein. I started my pre-op diet yesterday. My Dr. states for the 3 weeks prior to surgery I should have at least 100g protein and less than 50g carbs per day. They are OK with coffee. I'd like to swap this out with something lower in carbs. I can't drink plain black coffee. Has anyone had any success mixing Protein Powder with their coffee for a latte type substitute? If so, do have suggestions for one with the best flavor/best mixes in to hot liquids?

Use almond milk instead of regular milk, it will save you like 65 to 70 calories off of that 100. Plus you get a nice "nutty" flavor in the aftertaste that is actually quite good.

Most of the pre-made shakes taste good in coffee. Seems like the #1 favorite might be the Premier Protein caramel. If you do mix them, let the coffee cool down a bit first. If it's too hot, the Protein Shake will curdle (UGH!) But, there are lots of flavors to experiment with.

Thanks everyone! I'll give the Protein Shakes a try, and the almond milk as well.

Stick a shot of espresso into any vanilla or chocolate shake. nummy. It mixes well and you get as much caffeine as a cup of coffee.

Iced cold brew frapp at home

One cup cold brew coffee. One Premier Protein Caramel shake. One squirt Sugar Free Chocolate Syrup. Ice. Blender.

Same thing can be done with caramel, vanilla or chocolate Protein Powder and Fairlife Skim.

Fairlife Skim - 13 g Protein 80 cal

Protein powder 23g protein 110 cal.

Coffee - 0

sugar free syrup 0 protein 5 cals.

Ice 0

So you've got roughly 200 calories and 36g of protein plus your morning joe. I still do this a couple of days a week.

I'm 3 years out.

Torani makes a whole line of sugar free coffee-house syrups. I have a station set up in my house. It's amazing what you can do - chocolate Protein powder, caramel Syrup an 1 TB PB2 - Snickers. Want to up your Fiber - add some chia seeds. Too thin - couple of tablespoons of oikos triple zero. The possibilities are limited only by your own tastes.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
