1 week Post OP and feeling weak/fatigued

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I'm 1 week 1 day post op from gastric bypass and in general feeling a bit tired and weak/fatigued, like my muscles feel fatigued even just putting my hair up in a pony tail or walking up my stairs. Is this normal? Did everyone else feel this way and if so when did you start feeling normal again?

I had a sleeve 2 weeks ago and felt the same. Take tour time recovering—you just had major surgery. By day 5 I felt like a “normal person” again.

bow that I’m 2 weeks post-op I can tell that my stamina and endurance aren’t where they were. I get tired easily—going grocery shopping and carrying in the bags will leave me tired for a bit.

Im usually a person that can’t sit still long and this bothers me—but I have to keep in mind I just had major surgery and will need to take it easy for a bit.

Rest up! Your body needs it.

It took me a good 10 days before I even felt human again. Even something ss simple as feeding the dogs was impossible. Getting their dogfood down and then leaning down to put it on the floor was too much. It took me a good 2 months to get totally back to my pre-op exercise routine.

So give yourself a bit of a break and remember that everyone is different. The most important thing right now is to take care of yourself and relearn how your body works.

Yes this is normal for awhile and it will pass. Do your best to get your Protein and Water in. It took me several weeks to feel like I had any energy after my surgery. My doctor recommended no exercise for the first 6 weeks for this very reason as your body is trying to adjust / heal and your hormones are going through some extreme changes that will affect your energy as well as your mental. Hang in there, it will get better! It will be worth it! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
