Real food

Recommended Posts

So I started my liquid diet yesterday.... it isn't great.. but doable.... I am on it for a month... which was my decision (doc requires two weeks)

Which leads to my question.... do you think I could have ONE real meal a week (high in Protein and low in fat and carbs of course) It is day two and I miss real food already and I think that if I could have one real meal a week it would give me something to work towards... thoughts?

Might be a plan for your self chosen additional 2 weeks. But during the 2 weeks the Dr. requires, I would stick to his plan. Maybe your additional 2 weeks will show you that you CAN do it!!!

You chose the extra 2 weeks, it's your decision on this, but the 2 weeks for the doctor, do as they say. It's all done for a reason, to reduce size of liver so less complications during surgery. What are you going to do if they say, sorry can't do surgery due to fatty liver, it does happen.

deyon: it has happened. It has happened to peopple who have posted here, and to people who were rommates (in the hospital) of people who post here.

I think it's irresponsible to say it can't/won't happen. Sure does, sure has.

it may not be that common but it does happen. I personally know one that was about 105 overweight and her dr tried to do the lapband but her liver was so fatty he was afraid of liver damage he stopped. She ended up having bypass instead, it does happen, that's why the prediet is so important. In a comversaton with her she said she didn't follow the prediet, makes me wonder what would have happened if she had.

"a physician opening you up for surgery and then saying.....NAH....UR LIVER IS TOO FAT WE WONT DO IT... isnt as common as you think....i doubt anyones insurance will pay for that... i dont know why ppl keep saying that.. do you have any idea how much money that would cost? .. anyway....the diet you are on is apparently important since so many ppl have to do it......its for the best surgery.... do it for you and ur recovery... i just dont like when ppl say..the dr will say no surgery.... please.... thats lawsuit city... :hungry:"

I recieved this in my email notifications then could not find it here, surmising from Faiths post, they deleted it. I would think that for a Dr. to continue with an operation when it is decidedly more dangerous, as opposed to closing the patient up, would be much more likely to be setting themselves up for a malpractice lawsuit.

I was told what perimeters the surgery would be completed in, and what would cause it to be cancelled---to me that makes it well within the surgeons rights to believe the surgery to be too risky to continue.

I would rather follow the guidelines, I mean afterall, if you can't 'follow the rules', so to say before surgery, what makes you believe you will follow them after? It is VERY important to healthy healing to follow the directions given you by your Dr. regardless how hard they seem.

It truly is worth putting out the effort.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
