If when I was contemplating surgery, I read these menu's of women with healthy BMI's eating so little and/or so strictly, IDK, maybe that would have potentially discouraged me

I also would have been very nervous if i looked through people's food logs. I was never going to eat only Protein 5x a day, i needed vegetarian options too and those by virtue are high carb/cal.

I really only gave up the things my Team told me to: carbonation, alcohol (I don't drink anyway) excess sugar, then caffeine, bread Pasta & rice (I dont care for pasta or rice so... NBD) for the first 6 months.

And even then they gave me wiggle room for my Roman Holiday at 4 months post op. I was told sure eat pizza, but get protein too. So I ate pizza pasta & gelato nonstop for 2 weeks and pastries crossaints, fried chicken tenders and kebab for 10 more days in Paris (only the panna cotta bothered me- the fabled Parisian dumping incident). Lost weight.

I made tons substitutions stateside for healthier versions of things and i will eat (or drink 😂) a salad in a min because i actually like them. But im satified that none of my choices make me anxious. I really really value that freedom.

Maybe its because I've never dieted before or maybe its a personality flaw, but i find the idea of constantly dieting or diet mode after surgery not a good fit for me which is why my MPF page is super lonely these days.

So let me get this straight. Just because someone might jump to a snap judgement of “my way” of living eating post surgery , it means I should limit posting and posting my meals? Even though I say nothing derogatory about any of the other posts that are on the other end of the spectrum—like urs and kitty’s? Just trying to not jump to conclusions.

Wait... why am I being quoted anyway?

My comment is not directed specifically at you which is why you werent tagged (why would you think this was about you instead of a general conversation? I thought we were just discussing different paths)

I was chiming in on : If I (during my preop stage)looked at other peoples food logs and associated it with my likely future I would have been wrong.

Why shouldn't you continue to post about your journey? I'm certain they are helpful to people. People adore the advice and structure you provide to them 💜

Thanks for this because I identify very closely to that philosophy so I am very grateful that there's hope for me yet!

I am also grateful for the variety of thought processes being shared here (I know that was the intended purpose but still grateful nonetheless) as it truly gives more depth into learning new ways to do things and testing what works!

I didn't read it that way FluffyChix. I think it's showing a variety of people's experiences and thought processing towards meals, expectations and personality styles and how that is brought into post wls lifestyle. Tbh, I've desperately tried to do MFP and recognized very quickly that it can't be what I do past a year post surgery as it doesn't come innately to me....I recognize that I can learn to do it but I won't love it as a longterm plan. That said, your posts has given me immense insights into how it can be done [emoji106][emoji106]

So please keep posting, we newbies are learning from it and that knowledge helps us develop our own way of being the new us.
Thanks![emoji176][emoji176][emoji176][emoji176]

Thanks for your reply! Will come back and answer more. But just had a thought! I AM such an outlier! Doh. Do you think I'm doing a disservice at BP by posting on this thread? Cuz maybe people will get the wrong idea about food from me and what "normal" might mean to them post weight loss?

Not to speak for @GreenTealael, but I saw her as responding to you questioning if you should post your meals.

Again speaking for both of us (correct me if I'm wrong GT), I think we are both saying to continue posting, but that there are other philosophies that have lead to success.

I will not continue to post my meals here. I am so extreme, I do think it sets a poor example for people who might stumble into this thread.

But I do think you and @ms.sss are extreme on the other side. I'm not saying it's necessarily a bad thing, it's working for both of you. You are both very satisfied with your lifestyle, which is more than most people can say. But just as I would never want a newbie to think they can eat the amount of crap I do, I also wouldn't want a newbie to think that such a regimented diet is still required at a healthy BMI.

Yep. Got it, thanks. I've decided not to continue posting my daily meals here. :)

I’m marinating chicken breasts in jerk seasoning to grill tonight. Anyone have some ideas to pair with it other than salad? This is my personal list of starchy carb foods. I’m ok with these because I don’t find myself wanting more or overindulging.

1/4 cup rice, 1 slice of whole grain bread, 1/2 ear of corn or corn tortillas.

I’ll probably end up making salad lol.

This time of year I love a tangy corn & bean salad, pickled beets, grilled pineapple, grilled peaches . . .

Personally I would do the rice since you are in maintenance, but that is just me.

I'm not sure why you've decided to discontinue posting your meals, no one, including myself suggested that. As many have stated, including yourself, this thread should represent a diversity of eating plans.

I'm sure you figured out dinner by now ... but

I've been really enjoying grain salads lately, farro, barley, quinoa. Also esquites (mexican street corn) has been showing up on all kinds of menus, and I can never resist ordering it! ❤️

I just got back from Trader Joe’s. Looks like we are having brown rice with something mixed in lol. I’m going rogue tonight and making it up as I go along. If I remember I’ll post pictures.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
