Stomach pain 9 months post op

Recommended Posts

I’m about 9 months post VSG surgery and I just started getting massive sharp pain in my stomach. It came on quite suddenly and hurts whether I’m standing, sitting or lying down. Any idea what this could be? Has this happened to anyone else? Prior to today I had been doing and feeling great! Thanks for reading!!

Sorry to hear that. Should you give a call to your surgeon just to ask?

Do you still have your gallbladder? Just a thought

appendix? Complication from your surgery? You need to call your doctor and maybe get it checked out in the ER.

Worth calling the DR. If you had a hernia repair that could also be a cause. I had some pains, but they were sharp and short in duration and usually when being active, the theory at the time was scar tissue from the hernia repair and it eventually went away (but I did go see the DR)

Thanks for all the replies! I think it was just gas pains! It hurt just as much as it did right after surgery. I had something to eat and the pain went away and it hasn't come back! Thanks again!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
