Happy Thanksgiving! Sure! Why Not!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Thanksgiving Day, as we Celebrate it here in America, is usually a time to gather with family and friends to give thanks for the blessings and/or luck, abundance, health, benefits, etc...all that makes us happy... However, for some people, its meaning is different. It's simply another day for huge meals, dinner parties, get-togethers or reunions. ;)

I've read that the first Thanksgiving wasn't exactly organized in friendship? ....hhhhmmm It seems that there was an ulterior motive....:kiss The Pilgrims were outnumbered by the Wampanoag Indians two to one....:fencing: The Pilgrims thought it'd be best to keep the Indians on their good side:biggrin1::biggrin1:, until more Pilgrims could arrive.

Anywho, I'm not going to spoil it for anybody or for myself....., who knows what really happened that first Thanksgiving Day? Who knows what was really in the hearts and minds of those people? They must have been having a good time....:hungry: The party lasted three days, didn?t it?:banana

I personally thank God for my blessings....What does Thanksgiving mean to you?:peace:

great thread.

- i am extremely thankful for my DH, DD and rest of my family. but mostly my DH. he takes complete care of DD in the mornings so i can get up before the crack of dawn to sweat my ass off.

- i am thankful for my personal trainer who knows just how far to push me and then pushes me just a tad bit more.

- i am thankful for Alex, the owner of LBT, and the mods for providing us a place we can learn some, gripe some and generally share experiences.

- i am (beyond words) thankful for a few people here on LBT who have picked me up when i've fallen, given me a nice swift kick when i needed it and helped me in more ways imaginable.

Thanksgiving is a holiday where I truly think about how blessed we are to live in America. There are few other places where people are as fortunate as we...we are lucky!

As always, I am thankful for my children and the medical technology that helped them come to be. I am thankful for my weight loss and the medical technology that helped it come to be. Mostly I am thankful for my husband...he is my best friend and I love our journey together...

Great thread!

You have many reasons to be thankful!!!!!!

This year I'm thankful for my daughters, they are sweet, helpful at home, honor roll students, loving and I could go on and on about my girls...:clap2:

Financially has been a bad year for us, but I'm still here and will keep trying...:)

This Thanksgiving DH and I will be celebrating alone. Mom is in a nursing home in another State. Oldest Son is on vacation in Brazil. Middle son and grandson are going to the inlaws. Daughter in NYC will be here for Christmas but not TG. Sometime over the weekend I will go see my Mom. She doesn't know what day it is anyway. They are all the same to her at this point in her life.

So DH and I are going to escape to our condo at the beach for the long weekend and get in some much needed R&R.

I have so much to be thankful for. My gorgeous, talented and healthy children and grandson. My sexy hardworking husband, the fact that I am near retirement and my good health.

I am a little bummed that it is so frickin hard to lose weight even with a lap band. I keep trying different stadegies and keep pushing on though.

I am extemely grateful to be an American, we are blessed. There is a great Documentary about the first Thanksgiving called Desperate Crossing on the History Chanel. It was absolute hell, amazing that any of them survived.

Happy Thanksgiving to all

Well, I hope I don't get any hate mail for this. I don't Celebrate thanksgiving. I don't think any american indians are celebrating it, not really. And a day that is a National Holiday, should be equally appreciated. Instead I think to myself, the american indians should be the richest people on earth instead of a nation defined by obstacles like alcoholism...., and commercially people are induced to overeat, over do everything, while so many have nothing. I think a true thanksgiving would be to not celebrate by contributing to the commercial crap, and contributing instead to the less fortunate in a way that would actually enable them to have some degree of improvement over the next whatever. Everyone avoids all this by saying they are just appreciating and enjoying family. Well, we are a human family. And this is just another commercial/govermental crap fest to make people feel good, which is an illusion, and bought into. Thats not where 'feeling good' comes from. I know I sound negative, but amazingly, I only get negative this time of year.:)

I am thankful for my family, our health, our happiness, for this great country, our freedom and the people who have sacrificed to keep it free for us. I am thankful for all of the "old timers" on this board that have inspired me and helped in ways too numerous to mention, and the newbies that have made me feel like I can give back a little now. I am thankful that I mustered up the courage to have this surgery and reclaim my life!

I am not a very religious person but somehow I feel very blessed everyday!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
