Lactose intolerance ?

Recommended Posts

I’ve only been banded a week and it seems as if I have developed the common post surg lactose intolerance (oh man it was horrible).

Tried the pills and they didn’t work. Doing okay with soy and lactose free milk but was wondering if this will continue forever? Will I have been able to tolerate dairy again

I am a little over 2 months out and can not tolerate lactose at all. I was told that many people develop intolerance and it stays with 80% of them (as per my nutritionist's statement). I find cheese is fine so I stick with that. I was never a big milk drinker so I don't mind at all. My first post-op milk experience had me frothing at the mouth as I PBed it back up, let's just say something I'm not going to try again.

Hmm, you know I havent heard of a post surgical lactose intolerance, but I am a little sensitive to milk since banding.

Not in small amounts. I drink coffee with a dash of cold milk, I can eat Cereal, I can even drink a glass of milk. But hot milk, ugh, as in steamed milk in a latte, makes me nauseous every time.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
